A Milestone Worth Raising a Glass To

Tonight, I shared a drink with my son for the first time – a memory I will treasure forever. 🥃

What made it even more meaningful were the bottles on the table: Douglas Laing’s Old Particular and Mossburn Single Malt Scotch Whiskey, straight from Scotland. These weren’t just any bottles; they were brought back by him during his exchange student days in Europe – a thoughtful gesture as he nears graduation.

This moment isn’t just about the whiskey. It’s about the journey, the stories behind it, and the bond we share as father and son.

Here’s to his achievements, the man he’s becoming, and to more moments like this. Sláinte! 🍻

Christmas Hustle Mode: ON

The holiday season is in full swing, and life has been busier than ever! With all the preparations, gatherings, and the joyful chaos that comes with this time of year, I’ve decided to hit the pause button on my drafting journey—just for now.

I’m so grateful for all the support and encouragement I’ve received as I work on this passion, but for the moment, my focus is on making this Christmas season extra special.

I’ll be back at it soon, refreshed and ready to continue where I left off. Until then, wishing everyone a festive season filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories!

Happy holidays, everyone!

ACMV As-Built Drawing Complete!

Today, I wrapped up an ACMV (Air Conditioning and Mechanical Ventilation) as-built drawing for one of the shops in Suntec Tower 1, Singapore. It’s always satisfying to see a project come together, especially when it’s for a location as iconic as Suntec Tower.

Here’s what the task involved:
✅ Updating duct layouts, diffuser placements, and pipe routes based on actual site conditions.
✅ Ensuring the drawings align with the existing architectural and structural setup.
✅ Coordinating with MEP systems to maintain accuracy and efficiency.

As-built drawings are critical for ensuring proper system maintenance and future modifications, and I’m glad to have contributed to this essential documentation.

On to the next project!

Exploring Revit MEP Families: Building Smarter Designs!

Today, I focused on Revit MEP families, and wow—what a game-changer for efficient and detailed design! Families are the backbone of Revit, allowing us to create and manage components like mechanical systems, electrical fixtures, and plumbing elements with precision.

Here’s what I’ve been exploring:
✅ Understanding the difference between system families, loadable families, and in-place families.
✅ Customizing MEP-specific families for better project efficiency.
✅ Using parametric controls to adapt components dynamically.
✅ Learning how to import, edit, and create families tailored to project needs.

Revit MEP families save so much time by offering flexibility and reusability while ensuring accuracy in every design detail. Mastering this aspect is an essential step in my Revit journey, and I can’t wait to dive deeper into creating fully functional MEP systems.

Learning Revit with Niko G.’s Tutorial – A Bumpy but Rewarding Ride!

I started following one of Niko G.’s Revit Architecture tutorials on YouTube, and it was going great… until I reached Part 5. Unfortunately, there was no sound in that section, which made it hard to follow and complete the project.

Despite the hiccup, I’m proud to say I still learned a lot of valuable techniques along the way! From creating walls and floors to understanding finer details of Revit workflows, this experience was definitely worth it.

Now, it’s time to find a new tutorial with clear audio so I can continue my Revit journey without interruptions. If you have any recommendations for great Revit tutorials, drop them in the comments—I’d love to hear your suggestions!

Relearning Revit Architecture: A Fresh Start!

I’ve started my journey to relearn Revit Architecture, and I couldn’t be more excited! Today, I followed Dianne Barinque’s YouTube tutorial and created a basic floor plan.

Here’s what I accomplished:
✅ Drew walls and a floor.
✅ Added windows and doors.
✅ Placed furniture and fixtures to bring the space to life.

While the plan isn’t fully complete yet (still missing a roof, grid lines, and other elements), it’s a fantastic start to getting familiar with Revit’s basic components again.

This small step reminded me of how powerful and intuitive Revit can be, and I can’t wait to dive deeper into mastering it. Huge thanks to Dianne for the awesome video guide—it made relearning so much easier!

If you’re also learning or relearning Revit, let’s share tips and resources! Together, we can level up our skills.

06/12/2024

As the design and construction world evolves, Revit is quickly becoming the preferred drafting tool over AutoCAD—and for good reason! Here’s why:

1️⃣ BIM Integration: Unlike AutoCAD, Revit is built for Building Information Modeling (BIM). It’s not just about drafting; it’s about creating intelligent, data-rich models that improve collaboration and decision-making.

2️⃣ 3D Design Capabilities: Revit allows you to design in 3D from the start, making it easier to visualize and detect potential issues before construction begins.

3️⃣ Collaboration: Revit’s cloud-based features enable multiple users to work on the same model simultaneously, which is a game-changer for teamwork and coordination across disciplines.

4️⃣ Efficiency: With tools like parametric components and automatic updates across drawings, Revit saves time and reduces errors compared to AutoCAD’s 2D drafting process.

5️⃣ Industry Demand: Many companies now prioritize Revit expertise, as it aligns with modern construction methods and project needs.

AutoCAD is still a fantastic tool, but Revit’s advanced capabilities make it a clear choice for the future of drafting and design. For drafters like me, it’s essential to adapt to this shift to stay competitive in the industry!

What do you think about Revit’s rise? Are you team Revit or team AutoCAD? Let me know in the comments!
