THE LAST 56 DAYS: BRP TERESA MAGBANUA, ONE OF PCG'S LARGEST AND FASTEST MULTI-ROLE RESPONSE VESSELS NOW READY TO SAIL
Today, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Art Tugade, together with Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant, CG Admiral Artemio Abu, leads the official commissioning of the MRRV-9701, now carrying the name “Barko ng Republika ng Pilipinas (BRP) Teresa Magbanua.”
With a maximum speed of 24 knots, the BRP Teresa Magbanua has an endurance of no less than 4,000 nautical miles which will greatly improve the PCG’s maritime security and safety capabilities in patrolling the country’s maritime borders.
The BRP Teresa Magbanua is crucial in swiftly responding to offshore and coastal maritime incidents. The vessel is also ready to be utilized for the conduct of humanitarian and disaster response operations during calamities.
Meanwhile, the second 97-meter multi-role response vessel of the PCG is expected to arrive this month.
Within the final stretch of the administration of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Secretary Tugade, the DOTr will continue to improve and modernize the Philippine Coast Guard and accomplish more game-changing projects and transformational initiatives that will ultimately give the Filipino people a more comfortable and convenient life.
