Our docufilm is heading to Dhaka DocLab! 🎬

Just in time for History Month, we’re happy to announce that our documentary film, Makasaysayang mga Araw with Xiao (Historic Days with Xiao) is bound for Bangladesh for the Dhaka DocLab 2024.

Lakan has been working on this documentary with Xiao Chua for almost two years now, and it is our honor to be the Philippines’ representative in the pioneer platform for pitching and mentoring for Asian documentary filmmakers.

We are excited to be part of this opportunity to share Filipino talent, culture, and history. And above all else, to learn more from the eminent mentors of this year’s lab.

We are more than happy to announce that Lakan Film Collective’s socio-fantasy short film was selected for the 2023 Las Vegas Filipino Short Film Festival!

The creation of “Si Jet at ang Dark Lord ng Dol Gurskul”, during the COVID-19 pandemic was both bittersweet and overwhelming—made possible by the collective effort and support of everyone.

Applause to the entire Lakan Film Collective, to our producers, Executive Producers, and the entities that made this dream come true.

LOOK: Members of August Twenty-One Movement (ATOM), History professor Xiao Chua and Creative Director Gio Gonzalves visit Bantayog ng mga Bayani.

ATOM was born after the assassination of Senator Ninoy Aquino on August 21, 1983. Bringing together professionals, church people and other sectors, it spearheaded and joined protest and political activities that advocated for the return of democracy. It articulated the nation’s cry for justice not only for the death of Ninoy but for all the victims of human rights abuses under the military rule of the Marcos Sr. regime.

This short observational documentary follows Filipino Public Historian Xiao Chua and the attendees of the first Anniversary of the People Power Revolution under the administration of Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.

Set in a dystopian Philippines, Viktor - the son of a Farming Class family - was abducted for being mistaken as the leader of an anti-government resistance group called KUMAG sa Bayan (Movement Against the Nation). Forced to clean up yet another mess, Viktor's abductors tortured him into admitting that he is indeed the KUMAG Leader, and later killed Viktor to further cover their mistake.
