The program kicked off with opening remarks by Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Member, Hon. Vincent Enerlan, extending the LGU's acknowledgment to the participants and recognizing the pioneers of Tribu Buraburon, who brought victory and honor to the municipality in 2017.

"This activity is a testimony of our hard work, of our LGU..., pag saludo ha aton mga dancers, props men, instrumentalists ngan an una nga Tribu Buraburon han 2017," Hon. Enerlan addressed.

The venue echoed with chants and loud shouts of support as the Festival Queens demonstrated their ritual dance, embodying the culture and story of their tribus, reminding the Burawanons how blessed Burauen is.

EVSU wants to address social media rumors about a big solar storm that could interrupt worldwide communication and energy for weeks or months.

This is false and deceptive. No scientific evidence supports such statements.

The November 24, 2023, solar storm story is unsupported by trustworthy sources or scientific projections.

When the Sun discharges magnetic energy into space, solar storms, also known as solar flares or CMEs, occur. These phenomena affect Earth's magnetic field locally and temporarily. The Carrington Event of 1859, the strongest solar storm ever recorded, barely knocked down electricity for a few days.

For astronomical event news, use reliable sources. Follow NASA or NOAA for accurate solar activity updates.

EVSU recommends being alert and using reliable sources. Help us combat false news by not spreading disinformation.

Tips for spotting false news:

-Beware flashy headlines.
-Check information sources. Trustworthy news organization or website?
-Be skeptical of unsourced information.
-Find out whether other outlets are reporting the same news online.

Do not spread bogus news. Instead, notify the social media network where you discovered it.

To strengthen gender equality and empowerment among men and women, the Office of Gender and Development, headed by Prof. Anna Marie M. Alonzo, at the Eastern Visayas State University-Burauen Campus (EVSU-BC), held a Gender and Development Students' Orientation Seminar for all departments on Monday, November 13, 2023, at the Human Resource Development Center (HRDC).

Prof. Anna Marie M. Alonzo, Head of Gender and Development Office, emphasized the significance of the said orientationโ€” to raise awareness about the Basic Gender and Development (GAD) Concepts, the Safe Spaces and Anti-Sexual Harassment, and the Gender Responsive Values that were discussed by the speakers, CoBE Coordinator, Prof. Neko G. Tejones, Responsive Legal Mandates Focal Person, Prof. Vincent B. Cabantoc, and Responsive Training Focal Person, Dr. Severo L. Blanco II, respectively.

"The conduct of Gender and Development Orientation is to raise awareness and achieve the vision of a gender-responsive university, where women and men equally contribute to and benefit from development," Prof. Alonzo said.

Furthermore, the orientation seminar effectively spreads awareness as attendees acquire knowledge from the discussions.

"It (the orientation) makes me more aware of the different sexual harassments since before han orientation, less aware pa," Ms. Divine Q. Montemor, a Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English student, remarked.

The event concluded with awarding of certificates and token to the speakers.
