SOLEMNITY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF MARY | December 8, Holy Day of Obligation

In Catholicism, the Immaculate Conception is one of the Four Marian Dogmas (alongside Divine Motherhood, Perpetual Virginity, and the Assumption) stating Mary's personal relationship with God and her indispensable role in the salvation of mankind. It is good to take note that the Immaculate Conception being referred to, is when St. Anne, her mother, conceived Mary without the stain of original sin.

"that the most Blessed Virgin Mary, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege from Almighty God and in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, was kept free of every stain of original sin." (Cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church No. 491)

The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, since is a Holy Day of Obligation, ALL CATHOLICS around the world are required to attend a Holy Mass. Participating on online Mass will NOT satisfy this obligation.

FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT | Prophet's Candle Lit Today

It’s not yet Christmas, brethren. But the church now enters the season of waiting, waiting for the “advent” of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We call this period “advent season." The advent season takes place four Sundays prior to Christmas.

You might wonder: What is that wreath with candles in your church for? It is called an ‘advent wreath’. A circular crown of evergreen with four or five candles. Each of the elements in that wreath has a symbol. Take, for example, the purple candle that is lit today, which symbolizes "hope." The rest of the symbols is to be unfold.

Jesus our Messiah, as we remember the prophets who foretold your birth, may You fill our hearts with hope as we anticipate Your coming. Amen.

SAIT, VALENCIA— Aimed to showcase excellent Agustinian talents, the first-ever San Agustin Institutional Cup—Socio-Cultural Night 2024 was held and attended by students, faculty and staff last night, November 27, at SAIT Gymnasium.

In the opening statement of SAIT Vice President for Student Affairs and Services (SAS), Dr. Rian P. Maisog, asked the spectators why the first socio-cultural night is born. He also mentioned about the school’s remarkable milestone of leaping into regional and national level stages, where their talented student, Mr. Harvey Barete, competed in higher leagues and earned titles.

“…Basin wala mo kabalo nganong naa ning socio-cultural night?”, Dr. Maisog asked. [“…In case you don’t know the reason why do we have socio-cultural night?]

The said Socio-Cultural event began with a mesmerizing exhibition of Latin-American discipline and modern standard categories of dance sport from two participating colleges. A clash of vocal prowess through vocal solo and vocal duet competitions then follows, as well as the hip-hop contest for the high school department.

Winning participants were announced after all the presentations and performances. The champion for two categories in dance sport and in vocal duet hails from the Mighty Hydras (College of Midwifery and Social Work), meanwhile, the Blue Archers (College of Education) bags the gold for vocal solo.

SAIT, VALENCIA— In solidarity with all the persecuted Christians around the world, SAIT wears red, lit candles and offered prayers on Red Wednesday, November 27.

Students and teachers of San Agustin Institute of Technology in Valencia City, Bukidnon, holds institutional celebration of the world-wide observance of Red Wednesday. With this year’s theme “One in Suffering, One in Consolation”, the Red Wednesday commemorates the remembrance of all persecuted Christians around the world.

This campaign, as first launched in 2016, is spearheaded annually by Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), to emphasize religious freedom and condemn anti-Christian activities that unfortunately, persists to perpetrate up to this day.

Mr. Elson Pastrano shares his views on the observance of the event and said that like the martyrs of the Church, we also need to “suffer in our own ways” as we “hope to go to the Kingdom of God”. He also added, “Our beloved martyrs laid an example” for us to follow.

Meanwhile, Rica Pabelic shared that celebrating Red Wednesday is meaningful for her and it is a “sign of support… [and a time] to offer prayers to the suffering Christians around the world”, said Ms. Pabelic.

A votive Mass for Red Wednesday will be celebrated at San Agustin Parish by the evening, and the faithful are encouraged to bring candles and wear red; the Church’s façade will also be lit in red.

TOMORROW, NOVEMBER 27, THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN THE PHILIPPINES TURNS RED, as we “…commemorate the day of remembrance for our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ”. This year’s theme is “One in Suffering, One in Consolation”.

Fr. Jaime Marquez, administrator of Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) Philippines said:

“If possible, the building façade of the Churches, schools, hospitals, houses, and other institutions is to be illuminated and/or decorated in red”, and

“The local Church may also encourage the faithful to wear red on that day as remembrance for the shed blood of Christ on the Cross as persecuted and martyred and for the blood of our persecuted brethrens”

Little did we know, that millions of Christians worldwide are faced with violent persecution for practicing their faith. Let us pray for our brethren who are in tribulation and may God grant them a great reward. Amen.

Red Wednesday was launched in 2015 by ACN, an organization that supports persecuted Christians.

The SAIT community are one with the suffering and persecuted Christians worldwide. Show your support Agustinians by wearing your red garments, lighting candles and offering prayers tomorrow. Thank you.

𝐒𝐞𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐭 𝟒:𝟎𝟎 𝐀𝐌 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐀𝐈𝐓 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬!

𝐀 𝐅𝐞𝐰 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬:

𝐁𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐮𝐧:

1. Present your gate pass at the entrance. If you forget your gate pass, wearing the official Color Run t-shirt will suffice. However, failure to present either will result in denial of entry.
2. Drop your raffle tickets into the drop box located at the entrance gate.
3. Claim your bottled water at the water station near the entrance gate by presenting your ticket to the staff in charge.
4. Proceed immediately to the grounds for the pre-run activities.

𝐏𝐫𝐞-𝐑𝐮𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬:

1. The pre-run activities include:
a. A short program
b. A 30-45 minute Zumba session
c. Water sprinkling, a foam party, and color blasting
2. If you are sensitive to foam liquids or water sprinkling from the fire truck, you may opt to stay away from the main grounds to avoid getting wet. However, water guns will be available at the seven stations, allowing you to participate by having your shirt colored during the event.

𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐮𝐧:

1. The order of participants is as follows:
a. Family, grade school, employees, alumni, and visitors
b. High school students
c. College students
2. Ensure you visit every color station to have your shirt colored. Expect color to be blasted at each station. There are seven stations, so your shirt should display seven different colors by the end of the run.

𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐮𝐧:

1. Join the after-run Zumba session.
2. Winners will be announced, followed by the raffle draw.
The event will conclude with a foam party for all participants.

ALL SOULS’ DAY | November 2

Every 2nd of November, Catholics all over the world commemorates All Souls' Day, which is:

"A day of commemoration for the faithful departed, on which Catholics pray for the souls of all the faithful who have died, especially those in Purgatory, that they may attain the Beatific Vision in Heaven." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1032)

On this day, we:

—Commemorate and honor our deceased loved ones.
—Offer prayers, especially Masses, for the dead; aiding souls undergoing purification in the Purgatory.
—Celebrate the feast day as we believe in “Beatific vision”: that our ultimate goal is to be united with God in Heaven.

(CCC 958, 962, 1032)

This beautiful practice is deeply rooted in our Christian faith, where the connection between the living and the dead is emphasized. We commemorate because we loved them and so does the good Lord made a remembrance of him: “Do this in memory of me”.

ORATIO:
Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine,
et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Requiescant in pace.

ALL SAINTS DAY | November 1

On this day, the Church honors all holy men and women (known and unknown) who have attained heaven. The feast day roots back in the 4th century, and it spread in the West in 731 AD as Pope Gregory III designated every 1st of November as “All Saints Day”.

All Saints Day reminds us all living (the “Militant” Church) with our communion with the Saints (the “triumphant” Church). It calls us to strive for holiness and live a holy life, following the will of God, as they did.

(Catholics, this season is NOT about horrors and devils, so don’t associate November 1 & 2 with it. This season is ALL about honoring the Holy Saints, remembering our departed brothers and sisters, and all poor souls in the purgatory.)
