Borongan, was named after the word "borong" which means fog. It was first inhabited by Negritos before they were driven to the hinterlands by the Indonesians and Malays. the early Boronganons settled in scattered hamlets until the coming of the Spanish missionaries who gathered them into small communities thus establishing the pueblo and parish of Borongan from around 1595 to 1620. SJ,. a stone church was erected in 1710 and was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary whose feast falls on September 8th. The jesuits stayed until 1768. The franciscans took over the administration of the place and concerned themselves not only on the religious matters but also about meducating people and building roads. They stayed until the Filipinization of the clergy in the early 20th century. During the war for Philippine Independence, local leaders supported and took active part in the revolution such as Eugenio Salazar Daza. He also become representative to the first Philippine Assembly of 1907. In 1960 Borongan became the seat of a new Diocese which has been carved out of the Diocese of Calbayog in accordance with the papal null issued by pope John XXIII with most reverend Vicente Reyes D.D., then Auxiliary Bishop of Manila, as the First Residential Bishop of Borongan. In 1965, the island of samar was politically diveded and the Province of Eastern Samar wasa born with Borongan as capital town. The plebiscite which was conducted on June 20, 2007 had the Boronganons confirming Republic Act 9394 - An Act Converting the Municipality of Borongan into a Component City of the Province of Eastern Samar to be known as the "City of Borongan". The city of Borongan, a component city of Eastern Samar is second class city with an Internal revenue Allotment of 276 million pesos. Location:
Borongan, the provincial capital, lies along the coast of the central portion of the province. It is located at the coordinates 110 36' and 125 26'E. It is 196 kilometers away from tacloban city, the regional capital. It is bounded by the municipality os San Julian in the north, the municipality of Maydolong in the south, Western Samar particularly the municipality of Calbiga and Hinabangan in the West; and the Pacific Ocean in the East. Land Area:
The City of Boorngan has the biggest land area among the 23 municipalities of Eastern Samar. It had a land of 58, 289 hectares which 10.10% of the provinces total area. source:

ALMOST P2 MILLION FOR 2023 BAR TOPNOTCHER! 🥇💸

Ephraim Porciuncula Bie from the University of Santo Tomas will receive P1.250 million from the DivinaLaw Foundation, P500,000 from an alumnus, and P200,000 from the University’s Alumni Foundation, UST Faculty of Civil Law Dean Nilo Divina told ABS-CBN News.

Pio Buencamino, another Thomasian who made it to the top 10 of this year’s Bar exams, will receive P500,000 from the DivinaLaw Foundation, P100,000 from the same alumus, and another P100,000 from the University’s Alumni Foundation.
