This morning, I left Manila to go to PGH without a referral. When I arrived at the ER, there were many patients in wheelchairs, others in beds. I was put in line at window 2. It was my time when the grumpy woman asked me what was wrong with me. I said I was having trouble urinating because of my prostate. The woman replied that it's only an emergency to be admitted here, and you can still urinate while pointing to the urine bag attached to my catheter. Try the other building tomorrow. The queue starts at 5 a.m., but don't expect to be admitted for maybe 2 to 5 days. I found out that those patients in wheelchairs and in bed have been there for several days waiting for an available room. I just said to myself, "Ang hirap maging mahirap."
Fortunately, the Sto. Tomas barangay ambulance took me there (thanks to our Kapitana Vanesa Zaballa, to Mam Virgie Morillo, to Jeffrey Alfonso, and to our pilot Andy Felixmeña). I know that after delivering us, he has to return immediately because there are also people who need emergency service, but I asked him not to leave just yet in case I can't be admitted, so I have a service to go home again. Ang nasabi ko na lang kay Andy, "Bawi ako sa iyo pag galing ko."

The Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) is a youth employment program in the Philippines designed to provide temporary employment to students. Its primary aim is to help poor but deserving students pursue their education by providing them with short-term employment during summer vacation.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the employer split the wages. DOLE pays 40% of the student's wage, with employers covering the remaining 60%. The salary rate is based on the prevailing minimum wage in the region.
The SPES program is part of the Philippine government’s broader efforts to address youth unemployment and support educational attainment among less privileged students.
