Welcome back to our weekly update of PVU: Farm update 3.0
Today, we’d like to introduce you guys to a brand-new gameplay experience that is “Gathering”. Since this mechanic is quite content-heavy, we’re going to split the explanation for this mechanic into 4 posts, starting with this one: The Overview.
Gathering mode is 1 of the 3 main gameplay pillars of farm 3.0, along with farming and combating (PvE).
As the name suggests, “Gathering” is a game mode in which players go out and collect materials. These materials will serve several purposes, from improving your combat capability against the undead to letting you automate your farming process. Better yet, if you have extra materials that you have no use for, you can exchange them with other players for Light Energy (LE).
So how do you go about gathering? Well, while on your farm, you will see a new gathering icon at the bottom left corner:
Click on the icon, and you will be greeted with a new screen, showing you the first element of gathering mode: the route.
On this screen,
Players will choose the most optimal route (going from left to right). Each route branches into different checkpoints for the materials that they want: Woods from foraging minigame, Fishes from fishing minigame, and Rocks from mining minigame. Besides those 3 types of minigames, there are other checkpoints on the routes that players may encounter, so you will have time to uncover this mechanic yourselves when the update comes out.
So does that mean I can just choose a route I like and gather until my heart is content?
Well, not quite. Players are limited by the size of their Travel Bag – a temporary Inventory that has limited slots – and Stamina – a limited resource that regenerates over time.
Let first talk about Travel Bag!
Every player starts their gathering trip with an empty Travel Bag of fixed number of slots. Every material they collect will take up a slot in the bag (some materials can stack while some cannot). Once their Travel Bag is full, players need to choose between discarding previously collected materials or ignoring the new materials. So, choose wisely and have a goal in mind when you go gathering.
Next is the stamina system. Each action players take while gathering requires a specific amount of stamina, and each player has a limited amount of stamina to spend per day. Although players’ stamina would regenerate every hour, there exists a cap at which the stamina cannot regenerate further. In short, a player who can optimize their stamina usage can visit more minigames, resulting in more materials overall compared to those who spend all their stamina blindly in a specific minigame.
Lastly,
Both the Travel Bag and Stamina can be upgraded as players progress through our game in various ways, which will be revealed in future blog posts.
That’s it for this weekly update. In the next three weeks, we will deep-dive into the gameplay of the 3 main minigames of gathering: Foraging, Mining, and Fishing. We hope to see you again next week.
Cheers.
