BEING AN OYSTER (By Nhoie Gonzaga)
WHAT IS AN OYSTER?
Well, oysters are shells that are designated by God to produce pearls. Let us always remember, not all shells can produce pearls and not even all oysters can produce pearls. That is why God may have embedded a great lesson in the experience and journey of an oyster.
WHAT THEN IS REQUIRED FROM AN OYSTER TO PRODUCE A PEARL?
A pearl results when a foreign object find its way to the system of an oyster, therefore creating pain and scar, which motivates the oyster to overcome by secreting or salivating, in order for these unwanted occurrences to further stay and cause discomfort. So the first requirement is PAIN. When there is no pain, there is no motivation to do better and to do things faster. That is why pain is considered an expediting factor in the life of an oyster. The second requirement is SCAR. When an oyster has no scar, that means there was never an object that entered its system and there was no effort to produce secretions to minimize the pain of the scar. Simply, this oyster has no experience yet of producing a pearl. That is why at some extent, a life without pain and scar because of failure, faults, wrong decisions and other negations, is a life that has not yet learned from the lessons of going beyond these elements that will make ourselves stronger and resilient. When the day comes that we have learned to lessen the pain and cure the scar, we are now ready to produce experiences and efforts in life, that can be as precious as pearls.
ARE YOU AN OYSTER?
If we think we will become veterans of success in life, without scars of challenges and pains of problems along the way, then we can never be an oyster. If we are not real life oysters, then we cannot produce pearls of accomplishments, pearls of hope, pearls of successes and pearls of happiness in this great life that we live.
Remember PAIN + SCAR = HAPPINESS. A great lesson we learn from the life of an oyster.
