𝐁𝐏𝐄𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐀𝐒𝐂 𝟐𝟖𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐚𝐲

The Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) program of Apayao State College (ASC) received the Outstanding College Achiever Award in the Research Category during the Gala Night of the institution’s 28th Charter Day Celebration held on March 10, 2026, at the ASC–EKB Auditorium, Luna Campus.

One of the highlights of the Charter Day celebration was the recognition of outstanding employees, offices, and academic programs for their contributions to the institution’s development and performance. Among the awardees was the BPEd program, recognized for its exemplary performance in research.

The BPEd program recorded the highest rating under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) performance indicators, as reflected in the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Budget and Accountability Report (BAR) No. 1 for Calendar Year 2025.

The award was granted pursuant to the Apayao State College Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence (ASC-PRAISE) Manual, approved under Board Resolution No. 101-48, s. 2025, and in accordance with Civil Service Commission (CSC) circulars and other pertinent laws, rules, and regulations.

The award was presented by ASC President Dr. John N. Cabansag, Faculty Trustee and Board of Trustees President Dr. Jaybee B. Omaweng, Vice President for Academics, Research and Development and Extension Services Dr. Ronald O. Ocampo, Chief Administrative Officer Brendalyn U. Fernando, Human Resource Management Officer Herminia L. Danao, and Campus Administrator Rodel A. Tapuro.

The recognition reflects the BPEd program’s strong commitment to research and its contribution to the academic and institutional development of Apayao State College.

The award was made possible through the dedication and contributions of the BPEd faculty, led by Dr. Marfred T. Sanchez, Program Chair; Jaylord Q. Guillermo; Judel B. Tabason; Marlyn Marcos; Diether John S. Ballinan; Vincent F. Navarro; Angelika T. Managad; Jhon-Jhon P. Arnedo; and Ron Denver M. Salvador. Through their shared efforts, the program continues to uphold excellence in research and academic service.

🏓 𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝟮 𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦 | 𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗙 𝗕𝗔𝗦𝗜𝗖 𝗨𝗠𝗣𝗜𝗥𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗘

Day 2 of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Basic Umpire Course (BUC) delivered a full day of intensive lectures and hands-on practical sessions, expertly led by Course Conductor Rachel D. L. Ramos — ITTF HPD Expert, ITTF Gold Badge Umpire, and International Referee.

The sessions covered the Laws of Table Tennis in accordance with ITTF regulations, including service rules and faults, scoring procedures, and match control, as well as standard umpire signals and terminology. Participants also took part in practical activities such as simulated match officiating, service judgment drills, scorekeeping exercises, and the proper application of procedures for handling disputes, interruptions, and exceptional situations during play.

These activities strengthened participants’ technical competence and enhanced their overall readiness to officiate matches in full compliance with ITTF standards.

🏓𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐔𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞@𝐀𝐒𝐂 | Officials and participants formally opened the 3-Day National Training on Table Tennis – ITTF Basic Umpire Course (BUC) yesterday, February 12, marking the start of the training scheduled from February 12 to 14, 2026, with school leaders delivering messages of support.

The course is led by Course Conductor 𝐑𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐥 𝐃. 𝐋. 𝐑𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐬, ITTF HPD Expert, ITTF Gold Badge Umpire, and International Referee, will facilitate comprehensive discussions and practical sessions on the rules, mechanics, and professional standards of umpiring throughout the three-day program.

Delegates from Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology (ASIST), the Department of Education Divisions of Apayao, Kalinga, and Pangasinan, Apayao Table Tennis Club, and Itawes Table Tennis Club, together with ASC faculty and students, participated in the ceremony, highlighting strong institutional collaboration in promoting quality sports officiating.

The opening program concluded with a group photo of participants, officials, faculty, and students, marking the formal start of the training proper.

Now in full swing, the three-day course marks a vital step toward advancing competency, integrity, and excellence in table tennis officiating.

𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒 | Ahead of the official opening of the 𝕀𝕋𝕋𝔽 𝔹𝕒𝕤𝕚𝕔 𝕌𝕞𝕡𝕚𝕣𝕖 ℂ𝕠𝕦𝕣𝕤𝕖 (BUC) scheduled on February 12–14, 2026, the organizing team, together with Ms. Rachel D. L. Ramos, paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Vice Governor Kyle Chelsea Bulut-Cunan at the Office of the Vice Governor.

Ms. Ramos, an ITTF HPD Expert, ITTF Gold Badge Umpire, and International Referee, will serve as the course conductor of the Philippine Table Tennis Federation (PTTF)-accredited training to be held at Apayao State College – Luna Campus.

During the meeting, both parties discussed efforts to further strengthen grassroots sports programs, improve officiating standards, and build a wider network of qualified table tennis umpires in Apayao and neighboring provinces. The Vice Governor expressed her appreciation for bringing the training to the province and emphasized the vital role of competent officials in ensuring discipline, integrity, and fair play in competitions.

She also encouraged the organizers and partner institutions to consider conducting a Summer Sports Clinic for the youth, highlighting the importance of sustained programs that nurture young athletes and promote active, healthy lifestyles.

The courtesy visit reflects the shared commitment of sports leaders and the local government to advancing table tennis and supporting youth sports development in Apayao.

𝐀𝐒𝐂, 𝐋𝐂𝐒 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐌𝐎𝐀 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠

Apayao State College- Bachelor of Physical Education (ASC-BPEd) and Luna Central School (LCS) formally entered into a partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on November 12, 2025, at Luna Central School, Poblacion, Luna, Apayao.

The partnership aims to establish the joint implementation of Project ASC (Academic Support through Chess): Enhancement of Cognitive Abilities among Youth through Chess Education. The project is anchored on the research “The Multi-Faceted Benefits of Chess on the Lives of Chess-Playing Students,” authored by BPEd Program Chair Dr. Marfred T. Sanchez, which was recently recognized at the 15th Joint CorCAARRD–CIEERDeC Regional Symposium on Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) Highlights and 8th Regional Student Research Congress held on October 28–30, 2025, at Ifugao State University, Nayon, Lamut, Ifugao.

Both institutions affirmed their commitment to strengthening academic collaboration in line with Article XIV, Section 19 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution, which mandates the promotion of physical education and sports programs in educational institutions.

Under the MOA, ASC-BPEd will provide technical expertise, research support, faculty involvement, and program monitoring. The extension team is led by project proponent Dr. Marfred T. Sanchez, with facilitators Mr. Jaylord Q. Guillermo, Mr. Judel B. Tabason, Mr. Diether John S. Ballinan, Mr. Vincent F. Navarro, Ms. Angelika T. Managad, and Ms. Mitzi Gay B. Cayde. Meanwhile, LCS will facilitate the implementation of the program by providing logistical support, ensuring active participation in training activities, and utilizing the validated chess workbook developed from ASC’s research. The school will also serve as the primary site for data gathering and evaluation.

The partnership is expected to strengthen chess education in the locality and provide evidence-based, community-responsive support to LCS learners.

𝐀𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐨 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞 “𝐒𝐚 𝐊𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐤𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐬𝐢𝐩”

Emotion-filled and deeply moving, “Sa Katahimikan ng Isip” by Maricar Arellano, a first-year Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) student, captivated the audience and secured first place in the Spoken Word Poetry Competition during the Mental Health and Anti-Bullying Awareness Campaign with the theme “Igniting Minds, Empowering ASC Community: 2025 IEC Campaign Session 1 – Mental Health and Anti-Bullying Awareness” held on October 3, 2025, at the ASC–EKB Auditorium, Apayao State College, Luna Campus.

Her poetry speaks of the silent battles endured by individuals facing emotional pain and self-doubt, shedding light on the importance of compassion, understanding, and mental health awareness. “Sa likod ng bawat ngiti, may taong patuloy na lumalaban, bumabangon, umaasa — at sana, kayo din,” a line that serves as a reminder that behind every quiet smile may lie untold pain, and that empathy, understanding, and simple acts of kindness can bring light to those silently fighting their own battles.

Out of 10 participants, Arellano’s performance stood out, earning her the top spot. The second place went to Clyde Henrich Lacuesta from the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) program, while third place was awarded to Sarah Mae S. Madamba from the Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (BSABE) program.

Meanwhile, Granie Faye M. Pitero, another first-year representative from the Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) program, also delivered a powerful performance with her piece “Liwanag sa Gitna ng Dilim,” Her heartfelt presentation emphasized the importance of self-care, faith, and perseverance amid emotional struggles. Although she narrowly missed a spot in the Top 3, Pitero was commended for her heartfelt performance and meaningful participation in the competition.

The BPEd Department extends its congratulations to both representatives for their commendable performances and meaningful participation to the event.

Driven by passion and excellence in research and innovation, Dr. Marfred T. Sanchez, Program Chair of the Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) program, secured first place in the Poster Presentation (professional) Education Category during the 15th Joint CorCAARRD–CIEERDeC Regional Symposium on Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) Highlights and 8th Regional Student Research Congress, held on October 28–30, 2025, at Ifugao State University, Nayon, Lamut, Ifugao.

His winning entry emerged as the top research poster among 14 participants in the Category, which was participated in by faculty researchers from various higher education institutions across the Cordillera region. His research, titled “The Multi-Faceted Benefits of Chess on the Lives of Chess-Playing Students,” explores both the cognitive and non-cognitive gains derived from playing chess.

Anchored on the theme, “Happitan (Conversations): Leveraging Science and Technology Towards Sustainable and Innovative Communities,” the regional symposium was jointly organized by the Cordillera Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development Consortium (CIEERDeC) and the Cordillera Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Resources Research and Development (CorCAARRD).

The event featured outstanding research and development (R&D) projects under the Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology (IEET) and Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources (AANR) sectors, bringing together researchers, innovators, and partner institutions to present studies that address key regional challenges through science, technology, and innovation.

The Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) department takes great pride in this achievement, recognizing it as a milestone that reflects the department’s commitment to advancing research and innovation in the field of physical education.
