PNP PROBES UNIVERSITY SHOOTING IN MARAWI CITY
The Philippine National Police (PNP) is looking deeper into a shooting incident inside the Mindanao State University (MSU) in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur on December 2, 2021.
“We are alarmed by this act of violence displayed inside a campus. I have ordered the concerned police unit to resolve this case at the soonest possible time,” PNP Chief, General Dionardo Carlos said.
Report from Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office states that the student victim, a certain Aripodin Darayno Mamacuna,21, was walking inside campus when he noticed that a group of men were following him.
Thus, he proceeded to the MSU grandstand to hide himself, but was caught and beaten up. The other victims pacified the incident but were shot upon by the suspects.
An off duty PNP personnel, who was watching the awarding ceremony of a sport event at the grandstand, immediately responded to the incident that resulted to an exchange of gun fire hitting one of the suspect's arm and prompting them to run away from the place of incident.
Suspects were identified as: Macaraya Saripada Armama, Banjo Saripada, and Rakim Saripada — all are of legal age and residents of Barangay Rapasun, Marawi City.
While victims were identified as: Aripodin Darayno Mamacuna, Anwar Dimaodin Kiram,Mohaimen Batal Maba.
Quick response of Marawi City Police Station personnel led to the immediate identification of the suspects.
The PNP is still establishing the motive of the case, but likewise not discounting the possibility of a gang war.
If this may be the case, the PNP suggests strong parental supervision especially at this time when the younger members of the society are given the freedom to go outside where they can meet other influential persons that may put their lives at risk.
