Radio Ples Lain 89.1 fm This is the official page of the Radio Ples Lain managed under the ABG Bureau of Media and Communication. It is not a third radio station.

The Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) Bureau of Media and Communication is focused on getting vital government information right down to the people in their villages through out Bougainville. To achieve this, the Bureau is managing this project 'Radio Ples Lain' (RPL), 98.6FM, which is a community mobile broadcast station that will produce programs and use a lot of face to face approach wit

h people in the rural areas. RPL is operated by the ABG with funding support from the Governance and Implementation Fund, a partnership between the governments of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand. RPL will operate on a vehicle that will move from one constituency to another in Bougainville with the aim of traveling to three regions, the North, South and Central here in Bougainville. Hence, it won't consist of a hundred people to operate the station. Unlike New Dawn FM and NBC Bougainville, Radio Ples Lain is an awareness oriented medium meaning, it will relay information about current decisions in the Bougainville parliament; the ABG's messages; what the Bougainville Peace Agreement is addressing; referendum preparations, community talk back; panel discussions with people at the government; public servants and people in the village. People in the villages will be informed when to tune in the station to hear messages. The following outline facts about RPL;

- Messages from RPL is to encourage peace building and information sharing
- It is to respond to grassroots people wanting more awareness on government activities, the Bougainville Peace Agreement and the referendum.
- It is to assist ABG's capacity to fulfil the 60:40 airtime MoU with NBC Bougainville by replaying community-based broadcasts
- It is not a third radio station in Bougainville meaning it is not operating like how a normal radio station operates to serve its listeners 24hours 7 days a week
-It will operate as on a vehicle which will travel from one constituency to another constituency
-It has a mast on the vehicle which can broadcast on 98.6 FM up to 50k (depending on geography) from where the vehicle is
-People within the coverage band can listen to RPL using their mobiles
-The total cost of radio equipment for the project is less than K200 000. Included are 2,000 solar/wind -up FM radio sets which benefit all FM broadcasters
-The RPL project includes a vehicle, two production staff and training
-It is an awareness project which is disseminating information using its own FM Band 98.6 FM to relay messages at the village level
- Messages in the programs will also be relayed on NBC Bougainville and New Dawn
- Messages that are pre recorded will also be uploaded on ABG's sound cloud for internet audience
- It will also have an online presence (fb page)

*President Toroama announces passing of South Bougainville Veterans Member Hon. Thomas Tari*

It is with great sadness that I officially announce the passing of the Late Hon. Thomas Tari, Member for South Bougainville Veterans in the Autonomous Bougainville Government.

The Late Hon. Thomas Tari had been unwell for sometime before succumbing to his illness late last night.

The Late Hon. Thomas Tari was currently serving his second term as the Member for South Bougainville Veterans before his untimely passing. He was the Minister for Police and then the Minister for Health in my government. Due to the state of his health I decommissioned his tenure as a member of the Bougainville Executive Council early this year to allow him to concentrate on regaining his health.

Hon. Thomas Tari was a Bougainvillean patriot and a true son of the Revolution. During the Bougainville conflict he served as Commander of H Company in the Bougainville Revolutionary Army’s Southern Command.

The Late Hon. Thomas Tari provided steadfast leadership following the 1996 BRA assault on Kangu Beach and the capture of PNG Security Forces prisoners of war (POW). He was responsible for the humane treatment of the POW’s and the negotiations with the National Government delegation led by the Late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare, Late Sir Peter Barter, Late Michael Laimo and Grand Chief Dr. John Momis for the release of the POW's.

The release of the POW’s by the BRA hierarchy gave effect to the 1997 Burnham Declaration and played a pivotal role in the peace process that followed.

On behalf of my family, the government and the people of Bougainville I offer our heartfelt condolences to the family of the Late Hon. Thomas Tari and the people of Buin and South Bougainville.

Rest in Peace my Comrade in Arms.

Hon. Ishmael Toroama, MHR
President

"I stood for the people, put down weapons to fight for the people and today let us work together to create an independence package for Bougainville."

President Hon Ishmael Toroama made this statement while addressing the Veterans at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) today at Tunuru in Central Bougainville.

He called on the Veterans to work together, adding that veterans had volunteered to this fight, had won the fight, peace was achieved, an autonomous government was created, a referendum vote for independence was voted by all and today everyone should be preparing for Independence.

A former veteran himself, Hon Ishmael Toroama also called on the veterans to refrain from using weapons and create a safe haven for Bougainville.

"We must leave a legacy with our children, if you have weapons that you passed on to your children please bring it, let us contain all other weapons we have and build a safe haven for Bougainville," he said.

The AGM was attended by veteran leaders throughout Bougainville, chaired by the interim chairman of the Veterans Mr Joe Pais.

Present at the AGM were ABG Regional members for Veterans in North, Central and South Bougainville and the Acting Chief Secretary.
