Census teams in the Gasmata Local Level Government area have completed the enumeration phase of the National Population and Housing Census but are stranded at the Gasmata station due to bad weather.
The strong winds and rains are causing rough seas and the team returning with the Census materials cannot risk travelling back to Kimbe until the weather clears up.
Gasmata Local Level Government Census Coordinator, Faustina Mohe told NBC News at Gasmata station yesterday, that they cannot risk the lives of the team and also must safeguard the Census workload folders that they have compiled.
She made these comments when addressing an advance team from Governor Sasindran Muthuvel's office.
The team was in Gasmata to receive the Governor on his electoral visit to the LLG, however the trip was cancelled due to the bad weather.
Member for Talasea, Freddie Kumai has pledged allegiance to the Marape/Rosso Government.
He says in the interests of stability and consistency in the projects being delivered in his District, he will remain with the Pangu-led Government.
Speaking in Kimbe today, Mr Kumai highlighted that the people of Talasea are now witnessing improved access to government services due to the commitment by Prime Minister Matape, especially in the splitting up of the District.
Talasea District was split in 2022 resulting in the creation of the new Nakanai District.

Six communities in the Talasea District of West New Britain Province will now be able to produce their own timber to build better houses and also contribute to community projects.
The Talasea District Development Authority Board presented portable sawmills to the six communities in a ceremony in Kimbe today.
The six Lucas Mills were supplied along with over 500 sheets of roofing iron.

The Talasea District Development Authority Board has given K20,000 to the Catholic Diocese of Kimbe to assist with the hosting of the relics of Blessed Peter ToRot when it reaches the Kimbe Diocese this week.
The relics have visited most parishes in the province since the Diocese of Kimbe Bishop, John Bosco Auram launched the program last year.
The relics will arrive at the Kimbe Catholic Church in time for the celebration of Blessed Peter ToRot’s Feast Day which falls on the 7th of July.
Talasea District Deputy Administrator, Martin Linge presented the K20,000 grant to Bishop Auram last week.
He said Member for Talasea, Freddie Reu Kumai has made this undertaking to assist the Church celebrate this significant event for the Catholic faithful.
Speaking in response, Bishop Auram commended the Talasea DDA Board saying the funds will greatly assist with hosting the relics and the celebrations to mark the feast day of Blessed Peter ToRot.
He explained that these activities are a lead up to the main centenary celebrations that will be held later this year to mark 100 years since the establishment of the Catholic Church in the province.
The Office of West New Britain Governor, Sasindran Muthuvel continues to support the establishment of the new Valupai Catholic Secondary School, in the Talasea District.
Governor Sasindran Muthuvel visited the school site yesterday where he presented a K163,000 cheque for the construction of a teacher’s house.
The new secondary school has been approved to commence operations next year and the Governor is working closely with Member for Talasea, Freddie Reu Kumai to ensure all facilities are in place before classes commence.

Students at the Bamba Lower Primary School in the Talasea District of West New Britain Province will soon benefit from a new classroom facility.
West New Britain Governor, Sasindran Muthuvel is funding the classroom.
The Governor’s support is additional to Member for Talasea, Freddie Reu Kumai who also funded a double classroom for the school earlier this year.
Mr Muthuvel presented over K122,000 for the project at the school, yesterday.

The Nakanai District Development Authority Board in West New Britain Province continues to roll out a program to supply portable sawmills to communities in the district.
This program aims to support communities produce timber locally so that they can build decent houses.

The United Nations Development Program in Papua New Guinea has signed agreements with five women’s entrepreneur groups in West New Britain Province to pilot its priorities under the Accelerated Blue Economy program.
The UNDP recently launched a Blue Economy Incubation Facility which aims to support the expansion of marine protected areas while also supporting the livelihoods of communities within the marine protected areas.
The five women entrepreneur groups are the first to sign up with the Blue Economy Incubation Facility.
The signings took place in Kimbe today.
The Talasea District Development Authority Board has commissioned a new double classroom it funded at the Namova Primary School in the Talasea Local Level Government area, today.
The classroom is one of a number of infrastructure projects implemented in schools in the district by the Talasea DDA Board.
Member for Talasea, Freddie Reu Kumai officiated at the opening of the facility.
He highlighted plans to transform the school into a junior high school to enable it to cater for students in the area.
Mr Kumai says education remains a priority for his DDA Board and he wants an educated population in the district to cut down on law and order issues.
He committed funds under the DDA Board to build separate classrooms for the Namova Early Childhood centre and the Namova Destiny school.
Mr Kumai also pledged to allocate a portable sawmill to the people of Namova to enable them to cut timber locally and build teachers houses and other requirements at the school.
This is in line with his plans to transform the school into a junior high school.
The Namova Primary School is one of the oldest government schools in the district.
