A Momentous Occasion:
The Rollout of the Integrated Financial Management System in Wau Waria District.

By: Jack Maru.

The 15th of April marked a historic day for Wau Waria District, one of the newly established districts in Papua New Guinea, as it unveiled its Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS). This milestone event was a testament to the district's commitment to implementing modern and efficient financial practices to better serve its people. The program was meticulously organized by the dynamic Finance team led by District Finance Manageress Mrs. Patryn Moroman, with unwavering support from administrative CEO Mr. John Orebut and Acting DA Hon. Mars Narewec.

The IFMS rollout ceremony was graced by the presence of Assistant Finance Secretary Mr. Gabi Kila and his dedicated team from Port Moresby, who commended Wau Waria District for being the first among seven districts to adopt the IFMS model. Mr. Kila highlighted the exemplary collaboration between departments and the district member, Hon. Mars Narewec, emphasizing his visionary leadership and dedication to serving the community by providing essential resources and accommodations for staff members.

In his remarks, CEO Mr. Orebut acknowledged the collective effort of Finance, LLG Managers, and other stakeholders who worked tirelessly to bring about this significant achievement. He underscored the importance of collaboration and unity in achieving shared goals and driving positive change within the district.

District Finance Manageress Mrs. Moroman expressed her gratitude towards Hon. Mars Narewec and Mr. John Orebut for their unwavering support, not only in financial matters but also in other divisions and LLGs. She emphasized the crucial role of leadership in facilitating progress and fostering a cohesive working environment that benefits the entire community.

A memorable moment captured during the event was the printing of the first check by Mr. John Orebut, Mr. Gabi Kila, and Hercules (MP's EO).

Wau Waria
Papua New Guinea

Wau, town on the island of New Guinea, eastern Papua New Guinea, southwestern Pacific Ocean. The town is situated at the junction of Edie Creek and the Bulolo River, in a mountainous region accessible by road from Lae and by air from Port Moresby. Gold was first discovered (1921) at Koranga Creek, followed by further strikes on Edie Creek flats. Wau was the scene of World War II battles (1943), especially around its hillside airstrip. The town was rebuilt after the war, but not on its former scale. Gold, although still significant, has been replaced in economic importance by coffee and timber, which are exported through Lae. Because of its elevation (3,543 feet [1,080 metres]) it is promoted as a “hill station” for Europeans. Nearby are a wildlife research centre.

MESSAGE TO ALL DROP-OUTS AND UNEMPLOYED GRADUATES

Written by: Lee Roy Wakei

If you haven't been selected to continue with your education this year, or you graduate from college or university and don't get a job, return home, take over the family business, and take it to the next level.

Family business? Yes, the family business - whether it is a formal business or the semi-subsistence operation that your parents have been relying on to fund your educational fees up to now.

For example, if your parents are coffee, cocoa, coconut, vanilla, rubber, oil palm, citrus (orange, lemon, mandarin, lime) mango, avocado, etc growers, the land is there, and the "money plants" are already planted in the soil.

You don't need money to start. You don't need a certificate, diploma, or degree either. All you have to do is to commit your time and energy to weeding, prunning, draining, etc., and waiting for harvest season.

While waiting for the plants to bear and ripen, use your time and energy to grow other crops or raise livestock. Create additional revenue streams.

If you do this, you will make more money in a year than your classmates who hold paid jobs.

Dropping out of school or not getting employed is really a blessing in disguise in PNG - where paid jobs are scarce but work opportunities are abundant. It is an opportunity to become SELF-EMPLOYED. It is an opportunity to BECOME YOUR OWN BOSS.

Note: If you believe in this message, share it with your unemployed relatives and colleagues.

It's wonderful to hear that Hon. Marsh Narewek has been dedicating his time and efforts to ensure the satisfaction of the people of Wau Waria. His commitment to seeing the road link being established in Garaina Valley is truly commendable. During his week-long visit, he not only supervised the construction of at least 300 meters of pilot track but also took the initiative to address and resolve various issues. It's also heartening to know that Hon. Marsh Narewek personally carried a pineapple from Bapi, the first village that will be connected by the road. This showcases his thoughtfulness and care for the communities who will benefit from this development.

The Cultural Impact of Dwayne Zazoring's Music in Papua New Guinea.
______________________________________________
By Jack Maru.

Dwayne Zazoring, also known as Kande Dwayne, is a musician of mixed parentage from the Eastern Highlands and Morobe, with roots in Kainatu, Finschaffen, and Tewae Siasi District of Morobe. His musical journey began with hit songs recorded under Rait Zam, now Tauf Isung Records, engineered by the talented local music producer, singer, and writer Elbig Rings. Songs such as "Bus Driver," "Angelina," "Table Mama," and "Kulung Lewa" showcased Mr. Zazoring's artistry and featured collaborations with numerous local artists, including Kronos, Naxson, Elbig, Archy Tazy, Mikes Toto (Skwatas), and many others.

Continuing to build on his success, Mr. Zazoring expanded his career by recording more hit songs such as "Block," "Mangi," "Lae City," "Morobe Kande," "Finschaffen Fisix," and others under the banners of Jungle Kid Production Lae and Bereng Bereng Records in Finschaffen. His unique talent lies in creatively mixing traditional songs from the East Coast of Morobe, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of his region in his music.

The significance of Dwayne Zazoring's contributions extends beyond the realm of music. His work serves to preserve and celebrate the traditional cultural expressions of Papua New Guinea. By infusing traditional elements into his music, he has not only enriched the musical landscape but has also helped to ensure the continuity of indigenous art forms. Furthermore, his collaborative spirit with local artists underscores the importance of community and unity in fostering a thriving music scene.

In light of his achievements, there arises a call for increased support from the Papua New Guinea government for young musicians like Dwayne Zazoring. The government's support is crucial in providing platforms for these artists to connect with the global music industry and showcase the diverse artistic talents of the country. Additionally, promoting the arts and tourism in the country.

By: Leleba Jnr.

You left your husband because he was cheating. You have a kid or two. So you divorced because you were so pained. You left. You left with the kids. Women always do.

You started working hard to cater for your needs. You work so hard but it isn't enough.

So you're above 30 now. You hook up with some young lads. Those ones wanting just entertainment with you. Still, these ones are not so rich to meet up with the growing economic demands.

You find a wealthy man. He is rich, you dont care. You need to pay fees for your kids as a strong independent woman.

You need to prove that it can be done.

So you're dating a wealthy married man. Now, you’re a side chic.

You begin to think of the side chics your husband had and why he had them.

You do not even question the morality. You begin to understand why, maybe they've got kids too. Mouths to feed.

Life to live. It doesn't make sense, still, it makes sense.

So you call the married man when he is home. He hides to shout at you for wanting to disturb his peace with his "wife" as you ought to know when he is home.

You think of your hurts, you think of your consolation.

Reality dawns on you. At least, you had a husband. He was fully yours. He cheated, but he was fully yours. So you attempt to find out what is going on with him now. He is married again. A younger woman.

After you make contact, he comes to visit you and the kids.

He drops some money once in a while, but the new wife is in charge now, you connect like old times, you have s*x again, he leaves for his house to his new wife.

You are now dating two married men, both of them are cheating on their wives.

I'm not justifying infidelity in marriage. I will never do it. If you’re not ready for commitment don't get married or make it clear you’re polygamous before tying someone down.

Legend of PNG Football Community.
By: Jack Maru

Raymond Gunemba is indeed a football legend in Papua New Guinea and has made significant contributions to the sport. His talent and skill have made him a favorable player in the history of the Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA).

Gunemba grew up in Morobe, with a mixed parentage of Finschaffen (Burum Kuat LLG) and Bulolo (Mumeng LLG). His passion for football was ignited by his uncles, Raymond Nasa and Gidix Nasa, whom he looked up to and admired. He even assisted them by carrying their soccer boots and water bottles. Watching their dedication and skill inspired Gunemba to make a promise to himself that he would surpass them one day.

His hard work and determination paid off when he had the opportunity to wear the No. 7 jersey as a captain. It was a proud moment for him, as it symbolized the effort he had put into becoming the player he is today.

Gunemba has had the privilege of representing the PNG National Team as a captain and has achieved great success. He has won the Golden Boot award and has been recognized as the Best Player of the Tournament. Additionally, he has also played for clubs in Solomon Islands and New Zealand, showcasing his talent on an international level.

Locally, Gunemba has played for various clubs in the National Soccer League (NSL), including Gigiara LFC, Hekari FC, Lae City Toti FC, and is currently the captain of Lae City Dwellers. His skills and leadership have contributed significantly to these teams.

Aside from his achievements on the field, Gunemba also serves as an inspiration to young players. He advises them to remain humble, work hard, and prioritize their faith in God. These values, according to him, are key to achieving success in football and in life.

Today, Gunemba will be leading the Lae City Dwellers in the semi-final match against Pom Strikers. I wish him the best of luck in his pursuit of victory. He truly is a champion in every sense of the word.

Wearing suit and tie, holding microphone and addressing any crowd does not make you a leader. Leadership is also not about many people serving under you. Its about you being the Service to others or number of people you serve.

Controlling public money to serve people doesn't make you a leader too, you are a leader when you use your own resources and time to serve others.

Before lo K**ap Leader mi mas g*t money,Haus na Kar blomi yet pastem. Sapos nog*t m bai mi go stealim service money blo People.

If I want to be a Leader I must master the craft, I'm not a Leader yet!

Wed 6th December 23

Sepik Pride will be back in 2025

I welcome the decision by Digicel Cup Board on the Sepik Pride.

The good thing is that this is only a one year suspension so we have 12 months to get our house in order. Consider this a learning experience.

Sometimes we have to be humble and accept correction. We have too many issues that need to be fixed.

First of all, Sepik Pride needs one point of contact between the league and us. We can't have 3 or 4 people communicating with the league management body.

We have to improve governance and everyone needs to know their place in the organization.

I commend all the players, management and sponsors for giving this year their best shot. We have been found insufficient. Let's humble ourselves, rebuild, reorganize and come back better in 2025.

I want to thank the Digicel Cup Board for their decision which I felt was a fair one. Sometimes a child needs discipline.

Time to get to work. Let's stop crying like babies and build from the ground up.

Avoiding Modern Slavery Concerns: (Establish Local Plantations).

Critics argue that the practice of Papua New Guineans traveling to Australia for fruit picking resembles modern-day slavery.

While there are regulations and protections in place, concerns regarding worker exploitation, low wages, and poor working conditions have been raised. By establishing local plantations, Papua New Guinea can ensure fair labor practices, adequate wages, and safe working environments for its citizens.

To conclude, instead of viewing Papua New Guineans traveling to Australia for fruit picking as a waste of money and resources, a better solution lies in establishing plantations within the country itself. By capitalizing on its potential, Papua New Guinea can create a sustainable agricultural industry, generate economic opportunities, and preserve resources. This approach not only addresses concerns about modern slavery but also promotes self-sufficiency and economic growth. Through careful planning, investment, and collaboration, Papua New Guinea can harness its agricultural capabilities and become a leading producer and exporter of high-quality fruits, benefiting both the country and its people.

PLEASE. STOP. ASKING. FOR. WORK. EXPERIENCE. FOR. ENTRY. LEVEL. ROLES. 🛑

In the Era of setting new hiring standards, we could see a lot of such broken pieces still😥

Dear Recruiter/HMs,

Please stop asking for experience for entry-level roles.
You could just say Entry-level roles ---> 0-1 year experience at the least.

You need not attract people by having fake roles, there are a lot out there who are unemployed. Don't break their trust and hope🙏

Please share this with as many people as possible until it reaches the recruiters who hold this thought, and let them know it's time to stop wasting people's time with wrong job descriptions✋

Came across this job posting asking for 7 years of experience for an entry-level role!

Another day, another classic example of a broken hiring process! 😓

New grads and freshers are meant to be freshers. Someone could be working in the industry for years and not have the skills you’re looking for, and new grads might bring along skills with them that could accelerate your business significantly!

Everybody deserves a chance to prove themselves!

PNG Unemployment Reason.

Sam Koim's illustration on the education system in Papua New Guinea highlights an important perspective on developing students to become employers rather than employees. Papua New Guinea, like many other nations, recognizes the significance of fostering entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency within its education system. The traditional education system in Papua New Guinea has often focused on preparing students for employment in established industries or government positions. However, there has been a growing recognition that encouraging entrepreneurial skills and mindset is equally important. By equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to become self-employed or create job opportunities for others, it can help drive economic growth and reduce unemployment rates. The shift towards promoting entrepreneurship in the education system involves various aspects. Firstly, it includes incorporating entrepreneurship education from early stages, promoting problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, and innovation. These skills enable students to identify opportunities, develop viable business models, and navig*te the challenges of starting and managing a business. Furthermore, it also involves providing mentorship and guidance to aspiring entrepreneurs. This can be done through partnerships with industry experts or successful entrepreneurs who can share their experiences and provide mentorship to students. Such mentorship programs can offer valuable insights, guidance, and networking opportunities to help students develop their entrepreneurial aspiration. It aims to inspire and equip students with the skills, knowledge, and mindset to become successful employers, driving innovation, and contributing to the overall development of the country.

Music Industry Needs to be Rise in PNG
__________________________________________________

Firstly, promoting the local music industry will help preserve and showcase PNG's rich cultural heritage. Music is deeply embedded in the various ethnic groups and traditions of PNG, representing their unique identities. By supporting the local music industry, the government can encourage the creation and preservation of traditional music, ensuring that these cultural treasures are not lost over time. Secondly, investing in the local music industry will contribute to the growth of the arts sector, leading to economic development and job creation. A thriving music industry can generate employment opportunities for local musicians, producers, sound engineers, concert organizers, and various other professionals. This, in turn, will have a positive impact on the overall economy. Moreover, the music industry plays a significant role in attracting tourism to the country. Many tourists are interested in experiencing the local culture, including its music. By actively supporting and promoting PNG's local music industry, the government can enhance the tourism sector and boost the country's image as a vibrant cultural destination. This can lead to increased tourist arrivals, longer stays, and higher tourist spending, ultimately benefiting the economy. In order to support the local music industry effectively, the government can consider various measures. This includes providing financial assistance and grants to local musicians and music organizations, creating dedicated music education programs, establishing music festivals and events, improving music infrastructure and venues, and facilitating collaborations between local musicians and international artists. To conclude, the government can also work towards creating favorable policies and regulations that protect and promote the rights of musicians, encourage the production and distribution of local music, and facilitate access to markets, both domestically and internationally.
