My PNG Mothers.

Poem by FW

In the rugged mountains, through dense forests deep,
our PNG mothers in rural areas bravely creep.
Their journey a test of strength and will,
Facing challenges that seek to instill fear and chill.

With babies on their backs and burdens in hand,
They trek for miles through untamed land.
Paths fraught with dangers, obstacles galore,
Yet their resilience shines evermore.

Fetching water from distant streams,
Tending to crops under the scorching sun's beams.
Striving to provide for their families every day,
Their perseverance a beacon that lights the way.

Facing limited access to healthcare and aid,
They endure hardships, their courage never swayed.
Childbirth a risk, with resources few,
Yet they face it all with strength anew.

Oh, my PNG mothers in rural lands so vast,
Your struggles and triumphs will forever last.
You are the pillars of your communities strong,
In your hands, the future of generations long.

May your journey be eased, your burdens light,
May your courage continue to shine bright.
For you are heroes, in every sense of the word,
Resilient, strong, your voices heard.

My PNG Mother!

ACHIEVING ECONOMIC INDEPENDENCE IN PNG IS A MERE DREAM YET CAN BE ACHIEVED.³

Achieving economic independence for families in Papua New Guinea (PNG) is a multifaceted endeavor that requires careful planning, sustainable practices, and community support.

Here are some practical steps that families in PNG can take to work towards economic independence:

1. Education and Skill Development: Encouraging education and skill development within the family is essential for economic empowerment. Parents should prioritize their children's education and seek opportunities for vocational training or skill acquisition programs for themselves.

2. Financial Literacy: Families should strive to understand money management, savings, and investment principles. Financial literacy workshops and resources can help individuals make informed decisions about their finances, savings, and investments.

3. Entrepreneurial Ventures: Families can explore entrepreneurial opportunities by starting small businesses such as farming, handicraft production, retail ventures, or service-based enterprises. Government-supported programs and microfinance initiatives can provide initial capital and support for budding entrepreneurs.

4. Agricultural Practices: Given the significant role of agriculture in PNG's economy, families can focus on sustainable agricultural practices. Embracing modern farming techniques, diversifying crops, and improving access to markets can enhance agricultural productivity and income generation.

5. Cooperative Initiatives: Families can join or establish cooperatives to collectively engage in commercial activities such as crop production, processing, and marketing. Pooling resources and skills within a cooperative can lead to increased economic stability for its members.

6. Access to Financial Services: Improving access to financial services, including savings accounts, credit facilities, and insurance, can empower families to manage risks, smooth consumption patterns, and invest in productive assets.

7. Harnessing Technology: Embracing technology and digital platforms can open new avenues for income generation. Online marketplaces, e-commerce, and mobile banking services can facilitate access to markets and financial transactions, particularly in remote areas.

8. Community Support Networks: Building strong community support networks can provide a safety net for families during difficult times. Mutual aid, rotating saving schemes, and community-based initiatives can help mitigate economic shocks and create opportunities for shared prosperity.

9. Environmental Stewardship: Given the rich natural resources in PNG, families should engage in sustainable environmental practices to ensure long-term economic viability. Conservation, sustainable forestry, and eco-friendly initiatives can contribute to economic resilience and environmental preservation.

10. Government and NGO Support: Families can leverage government programs, grants, and support from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that focus on economic development, entrepreneurship, and livelihood improvement.

It is important to note that achieving economic independence is a gradual process, and families may face challenges along the way. By fostering a culture of entrepreneurship, embracing sustainable practices, and collaborating with local communities, families in PNG can take steps towards economic self-sufficiency and resilience.

By SAM KOIM (Copypaste from PNG SUN)

"Firstly, we need to establish where the guns and bullets are coming from and cut off the supply chain. Simple people cannot afford it.

Well connected and well-to-do people are sponsoring the killings. Foot soldiers are on the ground fighting whilst the command centre is established outside of the battle field.

Coming off from a village that had recent tribal fight, I did my own enquires and established that most of the ammunitions and weapons were unfortunately supplied by our disciplined forces - “Cash for ammos”.

There could be other sources too and we need to establish where it’s coming from. But important message is cut off the supply line.

I believe Police and Defence used to have armouries where all guns and bullets are locked away except for operations.

They maintained a register where one has to sign out the weapon and ammunition being taken out and after the operation they return and sign again.

If some ammunitions missing, they have to file an incident report with the shell case if possible.

I don’t know whether such is being enforced or practised still.

I see officers taking weapons home and carrying them around everywhere these days.

Secondly, and with the greatest respect, the kind of combat exposure and the courage to die if it comes to it, that these tribal fighters have is more than our disciplined forces.

So we cannot expect our soldiers and police go in the middle of a warfare and stop them. The best they can do is help mediate and broker peace.

Thirdly, the people who will broker peace are the commandos operating outside of the fight zone - the elite sponsors.

They must commit to peace and tell their foot soldiers to ceasefire.

Fourthly, from experience, the person who will go there and broker peace between warring parties must be beyond reproach.

Neither side must suspect you of supporting the other. You must have the trust of both sides to bring them to the round table to talk peace.

This is the difficult part for many leaders from the area.

Finally, tribal fight is highly fueled by rumour, propaganda and irrationality.

Under these very fluid environments, anyone intervening must master the skills and strike a delicate balance in managing talks.

Just some experiences I thought to share.

The more electricity something uses, the more heat is generated in the wiring.

NEVER use power strips or extension cords to power an air conditioner, refrigerator, or anything that draws a lot of power. Anything that uses a lot of power should always be plugged straight into the outlet.

No extension cords. No splitters. No power strips.

We don't want to fight a fire right now. It's too hot outside.

Ask anyone who has experienced a fire, and they will tell you they are NOT fun. Zero stars - Would not recommend.

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

I am 25 years of age, just graduated from uni, one chapter close the other open, I am struggling to get a job in this tough time in Papua New Guinea.

The economy is very unstable, Corruption is at its peak I don't have any choice but to struggle on the streets and do small marketing to sustain myself.

I know my current situation is not permanent as it will get better, Everyone has their own challenges in life, some of my friends get jobs, some we are on the streets, but that's not the end, I am my own competition I will not give up in life.

I know my story is relatable to most Papua New Guinean kids.

Stay strong we'll be fine

From Grade 12 Dropout to a Top PNG SME.

This is Shane's story.

We've read and heard about success stories that were pulled off by people that life pushed down but made their way out to be successful. As indifferent, this may be, but this is downright captivating, for it tells of digitalisation where we embrace the future at present.

Shane Chinau was born on March 15, 1990, at ANGAU General Hospital in Lae, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea. Over time, he has emerged as a successful entrepreneur despite all the life adversities and educational challenges. Hailing from East Sepik Province, Shane was raised in a family deeply-rooted in Christianity. His parents, Francisca and Joe Chinau, instilled in him the values of Christian faith and placing God at the center of everything.

Shane delightfully shares the siblinghood of the Chinaus with Solomon and Elizabeth, where Shane is the second in birth order. His academic journey began in 1995 when he attended Redly and Bunny Elementary school. He enrolled at Gordens International School in Port Moresby the following year, where he completed his primary education from Prep to Grade 7 in 2002.

Shane repeated Grade 7 at Coronation College in Lae in 2003 due to calamity. He, however, progressively failed Grade 8. But being educationally ambitious, he was determined to overcome his academic challenges. He enrolled at Lae Christian Academy in 2005 to repeat Grade 8. He successfully completed his secondary education from Grades 9 to 12 at Bugandi Secondary School between 2006 and 2009.

Upon completing his secondary education with optimism, however, an affliction stood in the way for him. He didn't secure a place at any tertiary institution. It was a ravaging experience when hopes for the future were high. Ambitiously unswerving, he decided to upgrade his marks through DODL (Distance and Open Learning) at the University of Technology in Lae in 2010. The following year, he enrolled at the (ITI) International Training Institute for a Diploma in Business and Computing.

In 2012, Shane began his professional career as an IT Technician at Seeto Kui Holdings. He later joined Hornibrooks Construction in the same role in 2013. However, in 2014, Shane decided to resign from his job and venture into entrepreneurship. He started a small IT business focusing on raising awareness on computer software.

In December 2014, Shane registered Chayil Information Technology and embarked on his journey as a business owner. In 2015, he received a significant boost when the former member for Lae, Loujaya Kouza, funded the pilot project for Chayil Information Technology to install e-library at Lae Secondary School. This project marked a turning point in Shane's career.

In 2016, Shane had the opportunity to meet Honorable James Marape, who was the then Finance Minister. Impressed by Shane's work, Honorable Marape engaged him to install e-libraries in two locations within his district. As the years went by, Chayil Information Technology flourished, and by 2023, it had installed e-libraries in 50 locations. Shane had interacted with over 500 educationists and 30 politicians while benefiting more than 50,000 individuals through his initiative.

In 2022, Shane decided to extend his success by providing employment opportunities to individuals without IT skills or qualifications. He trained them as apprentices, and after five months of intensive training, they proved their worth in Chayil Information Technology. The team of 15 individuals successfully installed e-libraries in three schools.

Shane's efforts and accomplishments were recognized when Chayil Information Technology won the 2022 PNG SME Awards. He attributed his success to his unwavering faith in God, believing that seeking first the kingdom of God is the key to success. Shane humbly acknowledged that all the glory and honor belonged to God.

His advice to young SMEs is to prioritize their relationship with God, assuring them that success will follow. Shane finds joy not in material wealth or luxury but in witnessing people appreciate the e-libraries he has created to help them. Looking ahead to the future, Shane's vision is to build a digital school where everyone can attend, leaving no one behind in the pursuit of education. With his unwavering faith and dedication to his mission, Shane Chinau continues to inspire others, proving that even a Grade 12 dropout can rise to become a top PNG SME through perseverance, innovation, and the guiding light of divine faith.

SUCCESS DEMANDS THESE SIX (6) THINGS;

1. Hard Work

Don't believe in luck, believe in hard work.

Stop trying to rush the process or searching for a shortcut.

There is none.

2. Patience

If you are losing the patience, you are losing the battle.

First nothing happens, then it happens slowly and suddenly all at once.

Most people give up at stage one.

3. Sacrifice

If you don't sacrifice for what you want, then what you want becomes the sacrifice.

Everything has its price. The question is: Are you ready to pay it for the life you desire?

4. Consistency

Consistency is what transforms average into excellence.

Without consistency, you will never achieve greater success.

5. Discipline

Motivation gets you going, but discipline keeps you growing.

There will be days when you don't “feel” like doing it.

You have to push through those days regardless of how you feel.

6. Self Confidence

Confidence is, I'll be fine if they don't like me.
Love yourself is important 🙏❤️

CITIZENS DEMOCRATIC PARTICIPATION🇵🇬
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
By Scott Waide:
____________________
Dear Prime Minister,
_______,,,,
Our government has to admit the fact that there is a glaring imbalance between Papua New Guinean and foreign ownership of businesses. We own very little in our country.
_______,,,,
The retail, wholesale and real estate in our towns and cities are controlled by Chinese interests. We own almost nothing in the logging industry. It is, as we all know, controlled by Malaysian interests.
_______,,,,,,
There is an increasing push by (new) Chinese business owners who are buying up National Housing Corporation (NHC) properties and forcing out Papua New Guineans – YOUR people – on to the streets.
_______,,,,,
There is no strong legislation that prevents 100 percent foreign ownership of property and land. We need those laws in place now. We need the political will to do it. Now.
_______,,,,,,
The justice system can’t protect our people. They don’t have the money to fight long protracted legal battles… …and the syndicate – yes, syndicates – know this and they take advantage of it.
_______,,,,,,
Recently, local people along the North Coast of Madang protested against a sand mining proposal. The people associated with the sand mining company have also evicted families from NHC properties in Madang. It is no secret. It was reported by the media.
_______,,,,,,
Take Back PNG must not remain a political slogan for elections. The people must live it.
________,,,,
I am calling for legislation that protects the social and economic rights of our people. I want lower taxes (or no taxes at all) for struggling SMEs. Give them tax holidays like the government did for RD Tuna and the petroleum sector. Give them REAL financing. Not a figure on paper they can’t access.
_______,,,,,,,
We want shop spaces in the center of our towns and cities. Give it to us. This is our country. We want what is ours. If the laws don’t allow it. Change the laws to suit our people’s needs. We cannot continue to exist on the fringes of a large Pacific economy that boasts a ‘healthy’ GDP yet cannot show it in the impact on the lives of our people.
_______,,,,,,,
Tax the alcohol companies. They contribute to the widespread abuse and the violence associated with it. Our society is not mature enough to allow the widespread consumption of alcohol. Tax the cigarette companies. Make them all pay for the ill health of our people. We are not taking back PNG by allowing these cancers to continue untreated. We are in fact, selling off PNG’s future.
_________,,,,,,
Reduce the cost of medical treatment at the private clinics and hospitals. Reduce the cost of dental care. It’s UNAFFORDABLE. How can a papa or mama in the village afford K500 for a tooth extraction.
_________,,,,,,,
Dear PM,
__________,,,,,,,
Give your people the means to look after themselves. Give your people the means to pay for their children’s education so they don’t become enslaved by politicians who peddle election policies that don’t really serve our people.
________,,,,,,
We don’t want to be dependant on government. We want to make our own money. Wealth in the hand of its people is real wealth.
________,,,,,,
We demand preferential treatment for US.
Our resources. Our Country. We deserve more.

💔YOUR MAN WON'T COMPLAIN ✊

Every men is a hardworking man in whatever he does🌱. Your husband can get scolded by his boss, but he remain silent 🤫

Your husband may get insults out there but he remain silent coz he doesn't wanna hurt your feelings 💔.

Your husband can risk his dear life for you and the kids. Your husband can hold his hunger so that he can have enough money to bring home to the family 👪.

He goes through everything, the hardest part of the world to bring you and kids a good life 💯
Therefore, before you frown at him for coming home late or empty handed, count first the millions of sweats you squeezed out of his body.

Before you get mad at him for NOT getting you everything you want now, look at his tiring eyes, maybe without you realizing it, it hides many tears to see you smile 😃 JUST KNOW✊.

If until today he hasn't been able to fulfill all your wishes ,it is only due to the factor of circumstances 🌱✊. Always believe in him and know that you won't be like this forever ✊
Change is coming 🥰

He might not have the chance now to fulfill all your wishes and desires but, one day he will. Keep pushing and support your man.

Respect that man and motivate him. He's working for both of you.🌱✊❤

Have a great night ahead 😊.
