Access to a clean and safe water supply is now available to the people of Tubusereia in the Hiri Koiari District, following the opening if the bore water system by the Governor for Central Rufina Peter, last Thursday.

The Bore Water system is an unique one as it has a purification system that purifies the water making it safe for consumption.

They gathered at the Provincial Government premises and watched on a big screen as it was livestream on television by the National Broadcasting Corperation.

Police have confirmed three deaths and several incidents in the National Capital District [NCD] and Central Province during the Christmas period.

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Turi, the NCD/Central Commander, stated that the region remained relatively quiet except for these incidents.

The first death occurred on Thursday at Kwikila Station, where police are now investigating the killing. Authorities have arrested more than ten suspects who are currently in custody.

PUBLIC ASKED TO REPORT CRIMES TO POLICE STATION COMMANDERS AND SECTION HEADS.

MEDIA STATEMENT

The public in the National Capital District and Central Provinces are asked to report crimes, seek help, or report police disgraceful conduct to their nearest police station commanders when they need police service.

The Commander of National Capital District and Central Province acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Turi said there are ten police stations in NCD plus a police post which is more than enough for the police station commander and the Metsupt to utilize their manpower to attend to the people.

Commander Turi further added that in Central Province, there are about Seven police stations in which the public is asked to get police service from the police station commanders.

He said if the police station commanders do not attend to them, then they can report that to PPC and Metsupt for them to check why the officers are not attending to the people.

Commander Turi said that the following are names and contacts for the police station commanders, Section Heads for NCD and Central Province.

Fifteen grade-11 students of Iarowari Technical Secondary School in Central Province will face court for the alleged murder of a fellow grade 9 student.

Central Provincial Police commander Joseph Sale confirmed the transfer of the students on Monday to Boroko police station cells for processing.

The all-male students currently locked up at the Boroko cells have been charged with murder under section 300 of the Criminal Code Act.

The Abau Student Association (ASA) from the University of Papua New Guinea, recently completed their annual educational awareness program in the Abau district of Central Province.

Garogota show host Hane Vada of NBC Central 95.5 FM Kibi Gadona was excited to have the executives of Abau Students Association join the show this morning.

ASA President Leonardo Amona, Secretary Tony Kove, and Treasurer Rex Telo were at Kibi Studios and reflected on their journey after the awareness trip.

One of the major concerns the students raised was the low literacy levels of the rural populace in the Abau District.

The executives plan to help address the issue with the help of donor agencies and other stakeholders.

Meanwhile, the weeklong awareness program began on November 5th and ended on November 8th, 2024, at Maopa village.

School bullying at Iarowari Secondary School claimed the life of a grade 9 student from Gabagaba village early this morning.

Mr Igo Loi, father of the deceased described this incident as unpredictable and called out to parents advising them to check their children attending the school.

Mr Loi, together with the Police addressed the school students and it’s administration early this morning, seeking justice for his son.

He added that nine (9) grade 11 students, who were identified as suspects were arrested and locked up by the police.

Meanwhile, PPC for Central province Joseph Salle also confirmed the incident and said that it is now a Police matter. Investigations into this incident are now been carried out to address the issue of school bullying.

Thousands of pregnant women are delivering their babies on the floor, at the country’s largest referral hospital in the nation’s capital.

Academic head of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the PNG Medical Faculty, Professor Glen Mola told NBC News, that about 1343 women gave birth to their babies on the floor at the labor ward, in May this year - due to a lack of bed and space in the ward.

This was the highest number of deliveries that were conducted on the floor.
