⭐️CULTURAL STORYTELLERS:
Get featured on 🇵🇬🇵🇬
We’ve currently got producers on the ground in POM and ENB and we’re on the look out for more individuals or small groups to share some of their culture and kastom with us so we can keep celebrating the beautiful, unique and diverse cultures that can be found across Papua New Guinea.
If you can:
✅ Tell us a story about “ples blo yu”
✅ Teach a dance or song
✅ Show us your bilas or how to make a certain cultural item or craft skill
✅ Share some basic Tok Ples lessons
✅Based in POM or ENB.
👉🏾👉🏾 Then we’d love to connect with you and produce a story for our ongoing series that celebrates the wonderfully diverse cultures of PNG. 🇵🇬🇵🇬
Also, if there any any media makers out there who would like to contribute from their own provinces/ villages, feel free to send us a message as we’d love to connect with content creators who’d like to come on board and share stories from your corner of PNG.

We met Aunty Minia while out and about looking for stories about the use of shell money in ENB but especially during the lock-down period.

We wanted find out more about stories we'd heard of an increase in bartering and exchange methods coming into play during the SoE as people were faced with the sudden loss of income through restrictions on movement and doing their usual market stalls.

'Tabu' is an existing currency in East New Britain province and can be used to buy goods, pay fines or taxes but is most commonly used during custom ceremonies.

We'll share more from Aunty Minia when we drop our video.

Stay tuned

Jenna Tobi, Gunanur Market vendor (reseller)
“My name is Jenna Toboi and I (re)sell onions, garlic and Maggi Cubes that I buy from K-Central and Anderson’s Supermarket. My business hasn’t really been affected by the State of Emergency lockdown, in fact this market at Gunanur has been better than the Kokopo market for me. When I would go to the Kokopo market I would have to waste money on bus fare and sometimes when I didn’t sell my fresh produce I would have to throw it away. Here, there are plenty of customers and everything sells out.
I have been selling onions and garlic for the last 4 years but before I used to just sell pit-pit, kumu, aibika and karakap.
I don’t know how old I am, but I came to East New Britain in 1976, on January 28th. I came here because of my husband, but I am Sepik. All my children have grown up here and go to school here, but sometimes we visit my family in my village and then we come back. This is our home now.”

VIDEO DROP >>> “NO MORE” violence against women music project.
An incredible collaboration of some of PNG's Female Musicians.
Originally sung and composed by Mereani Masani, this song is an appeal to our FATHERS & BROTHERS to stand up and be the first to defend the most vulnerable group in society - our women, our mothers, our sisters, children and daughters. We would like to honor and remember those living in violent circumstances and remind them that they are not alone. Mipla tingim yupla stap. You are stonger than you think. RISE Up & SPEAK OUT!

This video is a little snippet produced by Kalolaine Uechtritz as part of the yumi stori PNG team and in collaboration with Ellen Vera Morgan Danielle Morgan and .
Check out Mereani Masani Officialon Facebook for the official video clip version.
