BREAKING NEWS: IMMIGRATION OFFICERS APPREHENDED

THURSDAY 16TH NOVEMBER 2023

THREE senior compliance officers (named) from the Papua New Guinea Immigration and Citizenship Authority (PNGICA) were apprehended by Police in Port Moresby this morning over alleged official corruption.

Police confirmed these are not the only ones, saying more officers have being identified and will be brought in for interview and have them all arrested and charged accordingly.

Meanwhile, the three officers (pictured) are currently under-going police interview at the Boroko Police Station.

EP NO 100 AND EP NO 102 - UPDATE ON ELECTION PETITION FOR NCD

The two election petitions challenging the validity of the election of Powes Parkop as the Governor for the National Capital District Electorate in 2022 is continuing. In EP No 100 of 2022 the runner up Mr Andy Bawa is the Petitioner. In EP No 102 of 2022 Mr Michael Kandiu is the Petitioner. Amongst other grounds challenging the election result both have raised allegations of bribery in their respective petitions.
This morning Justice Dingake sitting as the National Court of disputed returns heard three separate applications moved by Powes Parkop seeking leave to amend his notices of objection to competency filed against both election petitions. In his submissions, Mr Parkop’s lawyer, impressed upon the court that the new grounds for objections as to competency Mr Parkop seeks to add were straightforward as they related to the timing of filing of the petitions and the payment of security deposit required by the Organic Law.
Counsels for Mr Andy Bawa and Michael Kandiu argued that seeking leave to amend the notices of objections to competency to add new grounds were belated and they go against the spirit and the intention of the Election Petition Rules which provide for expedited hearing and conclusion of election petition proceedings given that the term of office of a Member of Parliament is limited (5 years). Mr Bawa’s counsel argued that whilst Mr Parkop relies on the Election Petition Rules which provides for the Court to dispense with the requirements of the Rules to seek leave to amend his notice of objection to competency, the grant of leave is not automatic. That it is a matter of exercise of judicial discretion applying well established principles of law. Such considerations include an explanation for the delaying in seeking leave. That such application must be made promptly. That such application must not prejudice the other party, e.g. delay in brining the petition to tr

Michael Wandul iS from Chimbu province and currently reside in West Taraka One block. Born in 1947 age (74 )and now is doing grade 7 in Gantom Primary School. He is a great inspiration to some of us young people who thought education ends when you reach certain age. Next year he will do grade 8 and lords willing he'll be selected to grade 9. He said I'm only trying my best to be educated so I can read the Bible. As early as 7am he sells mustard and betelnut before going to class because that's his only means of income for his school fee and lunch money. He received the special award for his determination ..💖💖😀😀

Judah Rimbu achieved following in his rugby league career;

1) He played for Junior Kumuls as Half _ back.

2) He played for Hela Wigmen and won grand final.

3) He played for hunters for three consecutive seasons. And he will be there for next season if he is not selected by other Australian or English clubs.

4) He was the top three hunters players selected by NRL team Dolphins for train and trial deal and played a trial game for the Dolphins early this year.

5) He played for PM's 13 match in Australia 2021.

6) He played for recent Australian PM's 13 match in Pom and was chosen has PNG PM's 13 best player.

7) He is now part of the Kumuls Pacific test. Wether you like it or not, he will take the field next week or following week..

Papau New Guinea's professional boxing promoter, who's the managing director of the Oceania Fight Promotions, Maryanne Millie alongside retired World Boxing Council (WBC) official Frank Garza in Manila last month.

Frank is one of the best referee in the world. One of the highlights of his career was back in the year 2000 where two of boxing’s most controversial bad boys Mike Tyson and Andrew Golota of Poland face-off in Detroit.

Tyson won via TKO as Golota was rushed to the hospital as he suffered with a cut above his eye, a concussion, a fractured cheekbone and a herniated disc in his neck.

Both Maryanne Millie and Frank Garza were invited to attend the 4th Philippine Professional Sports Summit was hosted by the Games and Amusements Board, which took place in Manila rom September 29 to 30, 2023.

Over these two days, the event featured engaging discussions with local and international speakers who shared their valuable experiences, best practices, and expertise aimed at fostering the growth of professional sports within the Philippines.

The summit honored professional sports icons, champions, and individuals or groups who have brought distinction to the country and have made significant contributions to the advancement of professional sports in the Philippines.

It's good to see PNG fight promotion company engaging with some of the experts in the professional boxing world while developing and promoting our local boxers.

Jack De Belin is contracted by St.George Illawarra Dragons on a salary cap of $750,000.00 per season which is about 2.2 million in Kina.

Why would St.George Illawarra be paying him that much? Obviously, he is one of the best forwards in NRL and because of the impact he makes in NRL games, the NSW Blues had to grab hold of him to play in the State of Origin games.

His reason for declining offers previously made at him was because he felt he was not PNG by blood and felt awkward about it. But now all negative thoughts and feelings aside, he has raised his hands this time to play for the country his grandmother was born, so the story can live on through him to be remembered.

And we PNG must welcome his decision to join the Kumuls and be appreciative of the fact that our Kumuls team now looks solid with the addition of a professional NRL player and NSW rep.
