Kagua River Bridge: A Call for Urgent Attention
The Kagua River bridge, a vital link connecting Apopa and Pawayamo villages in Aiya LLG, Kagua Erave District of Southern Highlands Province, is in dire need of repair. This historical bridge, one of the oldest in the country, not only serves the people of Aiya LLG but also the entire Southern Highlands Province (SHP).
With the forthcoming completion of the Gulf-SHP highway, the bridge is poised to become a crucial artery for the Highlands, Momase, and Southern regions. However, the bridge has been severely neglected for years. The loose, hanging structure is deemed unfit and poses a significant risk to travellers.
Responsibility for the maintenance of this deteriorating bridge falls under the jurisdiction of the Kagua Erave District Development Authority (KEDDA) and the SHP Provincial Government. Previous MPs have overlooked the bridge’s condition, leaving the community in a precarious situation.
On behalf of the affected population, we appeal to Hon. William Powi and Hon. Maino Pano to provide the much-needed leadership and attention to this pressing issue. The community urgently needs a safe and reliable bridge to support their daily lives.
