The year 2024 proved to be a challenging period for many countries worldwide, and Papua New Guinea was no exception. The economy faced significant hurdles, leading to difficult circumstances for companies operating within the nation. A notable issue was the foreign exchange crisis, which severely impacted businesses and their ability to sustain operations. As a result, many companies struggled to provide their employees with the same level of support and joy during the festive season as they had in previous years. Both employers and employees faced a tough landscape, where financial constraints limited the usual celebrations and festivities that typically marked this time of year.
Despite these challenges, a small group of dedicated staff from Lae Biscuit Company found innovative ways to bring joy to their festive celebrations in 2024. Rachael David, one of the employees, shared her insights before the New Year festivities, highlighting a successful initiative that had begun in 2024.
By pooling their resources, five units within the company each contributed K50, leading to a mid-July fundraising effort that ultimately raised K5000.
The K4000 being allocate for the festive day, the employees managed to organize enjoyable activities for everyone, while the remaining K1000 was divided back among the five units, providing them with a small but meaningful reward of K200 each.
Rachael expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards Lae Biscuit Company for their unwavering support throughout the economically challenging year.
She noted that the company’s commitment to ensuring timely salary payments, despite the prevailing hardships, played a crucial role in enabling the staff to come together and celebrate.
Through collaboration and creativity, they turned a difficult situation into a successful festive season filled with joy, underscoring the resilience and camaraderie of the LAE Biscuit Company LTD team during trying times.
