A total of 17 prisoners from the Kerevat CS prison dashed for freedom yesterday.

According to a brief report by police, the prisoners escaped the main cell blocks.

According to police, of the 17 prisoners who escaped, 11 are remandees while 6 are convicted.

It is alleged that notorious Jack Bilak the ring leader of Raluana LLG gang that has been terrorizing the villages in the Zone 3 of Raluana LLG is amongst the 17 who escaped.

Public and Businesses are urged to be vigilant at this time.

The East New Britain Provincial Government through its Provincial Assembly passed more than 600million kina budget for its 2023 Fiscal year.

The 600.1million (618 107 790) kina budget was handed down today (06/02/23)by the Governor Michael Marum to the Provincial Assembly Members.

This year’s budget is an increase of 200 plus million kina compared to last year’s budget at 398.8million (398 802 618) kina.

With the theme “Fostering sustainable livelihoods at the wards through partnership for economic growth, Governor Marum says the 2023 budget strikes a balance between addressing the pressing needs of today and the critical investments needed for tomorrow.

The ENB Clash of Towns 2023 Series Winner was awarded to the Rabaul Ashes after defeating its rival the Kokopo Marlins on 14points -4points in the last match played yesterday at the Gold Spot Kalabon Stadium in Kokopo.

This year’s clash of towns series had three matches played.

The first match was played at the Gold Spot Stadium in Kokopo, the second match was played at the Rabaul Queens Park Oval on the Saturday 28th January 2023 while the last match was played yesterday at the Gold Spot Stadium in Kokopo.

ENB Famous Baining Fire Dance

The Baining Tribe in East New Britain Province are famously known as fire dancers to their sacred Fire Dance.

The Baining Fire Dance is a unique ceremonial dance performed at special occasions.

It may look dangerous and rather painful but the Baining people are famous for this in which tubuans with their masks dance through flames in a night time ritual perform to celebrate births and the passing of family members, as well as to invite young men into adulthood.

Yesterday Friday 3rd of January 2023, more than 200 tourists attended a fire dance ritual ceremony at the Gaulim Ward of Inland Baining LLG of Gazelle District in East New Britain Province.

The tour was facilitated by Melanesian Tourist Services.

The tourists were given a taste of fire as they were captivated by the fire dancers.

East New Britain Governor Michael Marum was also present to witness the show.

Despite attempts made by all five MPs in East New Britain in advocating against law and order in the province, armed robbery continues to escalate.

This afternoon in Kokopo Leon Hardware Kokopo Branch has fallen victim.

A security guard was stabbed with knife and a good amount of cash money was stolen from the day takings.

According to the security guard and the shop assistants about ten suspects armed with guns and bush-knives got into the shop had them offguard at gunpoint, stole the money got on the taxi and fled.

While on the run the suspects open fired gun shots preventing public to blocking them off the road.

Police came in about 15 minutes late to the scene only to find out that the suspects had a successful operation and made their way out successfully into hiding.

The incident happened just after two days of walk for peace by the ENBs Members of Parliament in Kokopo over the weekend on Saturday 28th of January 2023.

Meantime, Police have recovered taxi that was used by suspects and the driver of the taxi was found with hands and feet tied and left at the Ulagunan PNG Powerhouse in the Kokopo Vunamami Urban LLG of Kokopo Disrict.

Police in the ENB have issued a stern warning to the suspects who have been engaging in the recent string of armed robberies that their days are numbered and the police will catch them soon.

East New Britain Provincial Police Commander
Januarius Vosivai issued this warning when speaking to the media.

PPC Vosivai said police have intel and have identified some of these suspects and they will be arrested soon.

He said most of these suspects involving in these criminal activities are teenagers between the ages of 15 and 19.

Chief Inspector Vosivai also called on parents to be responsible for their children and must always monitor them every-day.

Meantime, crime statistics reports have shown that the crime rate in the province has increased drastically in the last 27 days of this month with 340 offences reported with armed robbery topping the list with a total of 24 cases compared to last year 2022 having only 23 armed robbery cases with a total of 350 offences committed for the whole year.

More than 1,000 teachers in East New Britain Province gathered together in a dedication service on (Friday Jan 27) to mark the opening of the academic year 2023 in the province.

This year is the 12th year for the province to celebrate the opening of the academic year.

This year the occasion with the theme: "Focuses on quality and inclusive education" was hosted by the Gazelle District at George Brown Secondary School.

Acting Provincial Administrator Levi Mano when giving his keynote speech reminded teachers to uphold integrity and be serious about providing quality education to children.

Mr Mano who is also the acting chairman for the Provincial Education Board told teachers that they are the fundamental part of a child's upbringing.

Acting Provincial Administrator Levi Mano thanked the National Department of Education and provincial Education Division for the management of the education system in province.

Mr Mano says only through working as a team and bridging gaps and relationships, can quality and inclusive education be realized and achieved.

The occasion was also attended by senior education officials and partners.

In the traditional Tolai ceremony, the Gazelle District officially handed over the ceremonial spear to Rabaul District who will host the 2024 Academic Year Launching.

With the prevalent reported cases of Gender Based Violence in the province and also in the country, women in East New Britain Province are calling on the government to declare a public holiday for the whole country to observe Gender Based Violence as an issue that needs to be addressed.

This call was made late last year (27/10/22)

We now Stand together with our women folks reiterating this call to the government of day!
