A Downy Woodpecker (Dryobates pubescens) trying to find some dinner. Similar in appearance to the Hairy Woodpecker, the Downy Woodpecker is typically smaller in size and has has a more narrow, condensed beak compared to the Hairy Woodpecker's elongated point shaped beak. Both are also native to New York State.
