Boeing 767-300 suffers engine and tyre damage on takeoff from Barajas airport

An Air Canada Boeing 767 with 128 passengers onboard has made an emergency landing in Madrid due to technical problems after taking off from the city’s Barajas airport.

The Toronto-bound flight AC837 departed from the Spanish capital early on Monday afternoon but had to request an emergency return after one of its two engines was damaged and a tyre ruptured during takeoff. There was no immediate information as to what had caused the malfunction.

Passengers described a tense mood on the plane as it spent nearly four hours flying in circles near Madrid to burn off fuel before its emergency landing.

“Obviously a lot of nervous tension while we were in the air, but the pilots did a terrific job landing the plane,” said one passenger, Brock Mierzejewski from Vancouver. “We are still in a little bit of shock but glad to be safe,” he told Associated Press.

Another passenger, who had posted images from inside the plane while it was still in the air, tweeted: “Pretty scary rough landing, but we made it. Thanks for all the messages and wishes.”

Spain’s defence ministry dispatched an F18 fighter jet to evaluate the damage done to the Boeing’s landing gear as it flew around Madrid.

Emergency vehicles approached the aircraft on the tarmac of Adolfo Suárez-Barajas airport soon after it landed at 7.13pm local time (1813 GMT).

In a statement, Air Canada said the plane “experienced an engine issue shortly after takeoff”, as well as a ruptured tyre – one of 10 on the Boeing 767-300. It added that the aircraft was “designed to operate on one engine and our pilots are fully trained for this eventuality”.
“Nonetheless, an emergency was declared in order to obtain landing priority,” the airline said.

A spokesman for Enaire, Spain’s air navigation authority, said the plane’s landing gear did not fold up properly on takeoff, and that a piece of it may have damaged part of an engine.

Spain’s El Mundo newspaper published audio on its website which it said featured the plane’s pilot explaining to passengers the need to return to Madrid, because a wheel had been damaged during takeoff.

Madrid residents posted videos online showing a plane flying unusually low over the city’s centre and suburbs.

It was the second incident of the day at Madrid’s international airport, the busiest in the country. Earlier on Monday, the airport closed for over an hour due to the reported sighting of drones in the vicinity.

Horsetail Fall (in Spanish: Cola de Caballo waterfall) is a waterfall located in Yosemite National Park, California, on the east side of El Capitan.

In February, and for a few minutes a day, if the weather conditions are adequate, the sunset illuminates the waterfall making it glow in an intense orange color.

Looks like it was lava!

To get to see this show it is necessary that three things happen simultaneously: that year there is enough water, it has to be sunny at the end of the afternoon and the cliff on the left must remain in the shade, to make possible the incredible contrast.

It’s not every person who can find a bird egg and nurture it until it hatches. This can be especially challenging if the eggs are tiny.

When A Chick Called Albert got a call about a nest that had fallen between some garden chairs, he went to investigate. The tiny bird’s nest had gotten destroyed.

At first he thought it was empty but when he opened it he saw the smallest pair of eggs he had ever seen.

What kind of bird would come from such small eggs? He decided to try and hatch the eggs by incubating them. He had no idea if there was something inside the eggs, but thought it was worth a try.

He also wondered if he would be able to raise the baby birds that would hatch from them.

The eggs needed to be turned three times a day to ensure proper development of the possible embryo. After four days he checked for a life. Using a light he could see nothing in one of the eggs. But in the other…yes!

Then, one morning he opened the incubator and one of the eggs had hatched!

He didn’t know what to feed the baby bird at first. But then he remembered he had roses with lice. (Probably the only time one would be grateful for that.) He fed the tiny bird some of them.

The chick was hungry every 10 minutes, and when the man ran out of lice the poor chick didn’t look like it was responding. But then he fed it some mosquitoes and it got better.

After two days the tiny chick had started to grow feathers, and a few days later, all his feathers.

Watch the remarkable hatching of this tiny bird with your friends and family and be sure to see how the bird looks when he’s all grown and ready to be freed!

Many questions remain, weeks into the coronavirus outbreak. Given the early and close linkage of the outbreak to a Huanan seafood market in Wuhan, China—which also sold animals such as birds and rabbits—the identification of the host of the virus and the route it took into humans has emerged as one of the biggest, earliest questions. Thanks to several Chinese research teams who performed genomic analysis on viruses isolated from patients, the puzzle pieces are coming together. The novel coronavirus, nCoV-2019, has been linked to bats.

The earliest report, published on January 23, came from a team at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Wuhan, China. Their study, published on the bioRxiv preprint server, is titled “Discovery of a novel coronavirus associated with the recent pneumonia outbreak in humans and its potential bat origin.”

Another report, published in The Lancet on January 30, “Genomic characterization and epidemiology of 2019 novel coronavirus: implications for virus origins and receptor binding,” came from a group in the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Beijing, China.

The Wuhan team performed genomic sequencing on samples from five patients at the early stage of the outbreak. Obtaining full-length genome sequences, they found that the five strains are almost identical to each other and that nCoV-2019 is 96% identical to a bat coronavirus. In addition, they found 79.5% identity to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and confirmed that nCoV-2019 uses the same cell entry receptor, ACE2, as SARS-CoV.

The Lancet paper analyzed 10 genome sequences from nine patients, eight of whom had visited the Huanan seafood market in Wuhan. The sequences had more than 99.98% sequence identity. In addition, they found that the nCoV-2019 genome had 88% identity to two bat-derived SARS-like coronaviruses, 79% identity to SARS-CoV, and only about 50% identity to another coronavirus that is a human pathogen—Middle Eastern respiratory syndrome (MERS-CoV). The team also found that nCoV-2019 had a similar receptor-binding domain structure to that of SARS-CoV. They write that “although our phylogenetic analysis suggests that bats might be the original host of this virus, an animal sold at the seafood market in Wuhan might represent an intermediate host facilitating the emergence of the virus in humans.”

Más allá de su amor por el básquetbol, el fútbol era otra de sus grandes pasiones y llegó a compartir varios momentos con Lionel Messi. "Fue un placer conocerle y compartir buenos momentos juntos. Se nos fue un genio como pocos. No tengo palabras...
