On Monday I was told by a news director at The Post about the sudden death of long standing journalist Nicholas Boyack. It came as a great shock to me and many others. Nicholas and I would speak often, I would pitch stories that he was always pretty receptive to cover (giving my clients great exposure!) and he would call me if he was doing stories and wanted commentary from local businesses and the like. He was always so supportive and professional- an ‘old school journo’ in many ways. He was the one who found out I won a scholarship to study at The Globe and was adamant it was worthy of a news story (despite my initial protests - I’m meant to get my clients in the paper!). I was looking back at some of the messages we exchanged and this one summed up his kindness and encouragement he gave to me along the way “Enjoy your Shakespeare trip. You work hard and with your enthusiasm you will be a great teacher so have fun and enjoy yourself.”
I will miss our weekly chats Nicholas. Your passing is a true reminder of how short life is and to make the most of everyday and opportunities that come your way.

Nicholas Boyack was for decades an integral part of the Hutt Valley community.

Fabulous evening celebrating the launch of the hottest apartment development in Wellington’s CBD! We have been working on the PR for this with Watson Group and Wellingtonian extraordinaire Chris Parkin - arts patron, entrepreneur and philanthropist! Great to see Minister of Building and Construction Hon Chris Penk attend and support. A highly successful event and awesome vibe!

So proud to be doing the PR for post-settlement Treaty organistion Tātau Tātau o Te Wairoa, whose commercial arm purchased the The Wairoa Star recently after it had to close it doors after 100 years in operation.

Since the Star closed in May, many locals have felt its absence, particularly those who rely on it for local news rather than social media. In these challenging times—facing housing shortages, healthcare gaps, and the ongoing effects of Cyclone Gabrielle and the recent flooding—it’s vital we keep communication flowing. The Star will help keep our community informed, supported, and aware.

Reviving the Star isn’t also just about preserving a local treasure; it’s also about maintaining jobs and a reliable media presence in the Wairoa region.

Love this beautiful piece of media covered by The Hui - thank you for your support :)

Exciting News for Regional Media and the Wairoa Community!

The past year has been incredibly challenging for media, especially regional outlets facing closures and tough times. That's why it's especially rewarding to share that our client, Tātau Tātau o Te Wairoa iwi trust, has successfully purchased and revived the *Wairoa Star*! This beloved publication, which had to close earlier this year after 103 years, is back!

This is not just a win for media but also for the Wairoa community, which has faced enormous challenges—Cyclone Gabrielle, housing shortages, flooding, and limited care facilities for the elderly.

Love this interview with Kaihautū (chief executive) of Tātau Tātau Commercial Aayden Clarke on *First Up* with Nathan Rarere on RNZ this morning!

Speech and Drama 🎭 exam week - done and dusted!
Proud of my 80 plus students who sat exams across this week from Grades 3 all the way to Diploma level. Such super stars! 🌟 so much time and commitment has gone on behind the scenes in preparation for their exams, they should be so proud!
A bit of a family friendly piece - my daughter Connie and niece Amy both sat their GRADE SIX exam and great to be working alongside my lovely mum who worked as supervisor for Speech NZ, making the girls feel reassured and at ease before they went into the exam room ❤️

Yes to PR collabs, yes to amazing events in Wellington New Zealand!! Bring it on!

We love our PR collabs with Arriba PR & Communications and we have been busy sharing stories about Wellington Jazz Festival.

The Festival is set to return to the Capital 16-20 October featuring leading homegrown musicians and exciting international names.

It will transform Te Whanganui-a-Tara into a jazz haven with more than 150 events across the city. The line up is pretty impressive with multi-GRAMMY Award-winning bassist, composer, and producer, Marcus Miller (USA), Five-time GRAMMY Award-winning vocalist, bassist and composer esperanza spalding (USA) making her Aotearoa debut, and Virtuoso drummer Alexander Flood (AUS) also makes his debut in Aotearoa.
Fly My Pretties also return and Jazz legend Rodger Fox will be honoured with a special performance by The Rodger Fox Big Band.

Did you know there is no aged care facility in Wairoa?

Did you know there are more than 50 whanau caring for elders at home who should be in aged care?

Did you know there are no palliative care beds or respite care beds in Wairoa?

Meanwhile, my client Tatau Tatau o Te Wairoa is trying to build a community-centered care facility for elderly residents and whanau in Wairoa, but needs $6.5 million more to make it happen.

I managed to secure an interview with Lewis Ratapu, Chief Executive of Tatau Tatau o Te Wairoa on Radio NZ Nine to Noon this morning. The fact this is happening in one of our regions in NZ is just heart breaking and needs to be resolved urgently.

A social worker in Wairoa says more than 50 whanau are caring for elders at home who should be in aged care - but there is no aged care facility in the town.

It's really heartening to work with a client who is making a huge difference to a community right in our own background. 18 months ago, Cyclone Gabrielle unleashed a devastating storm on Hawke’s Bay. The cyclone caused severe damage on over 1,500 homes, displaced more than 1,400 people, and tragically claimed the lives of 11 individuals. Over 2,000 people were forced to evacuate their homes.

Since then my client, post Treaty settlement agency Tātau Tātau o Te Wairoa has been doing incredible mahi to repair homes that have been destroyed, rehouse kaumātua and whanau and with an eye to the future, expand its horticulture am Haumako.

Since transitioning from traditional sheep and beef farming, Tātau Tātau has successfully planted 18 hectares of apples on Tara Orchard north of Wairoa in collaboration with Ohuia Incorporation. Haumako continues to champion talent development through its horticulture cadet programme, which has achieved notable success. Recent graduates, including five who have secured management positions within Haumako’s Whakapau and Tara orchards, exemplifying the programme’s effectiveness. The Trust now has plans to grow its water storage and orchard infrastructure, as well as develop a first stage packhouse. Really thrilled with this radio package about their inspiring horticulture programme which aired on Radio NZ National's Country Life programme last week. It just goes to show the face of adversity, people can come together, demonstrating that even in the darkest times, the human spirit can shine brightly.
