At Favour the Brave, I feel super lucky to be able to work on things like copywriting, editorial content, campaign development and marketing strategy. While I’d love to dabble in design, I’m much better off leaving that to Jaron Mumby. 🙅🏼‍♀️

All of these things I do quietly at my desk, with a little help from my friends. They come from all walks of life; different backgrounds, industries, ages and stages, and they all help me morph into the shoes of the person or business I’m creating content for. Amidst the voices that are sometimes less helpful (IYKYK), these ones are invaluable.

So here’s to the voices in our heads who help us dream up ideas, personas, actions, words and stories that give us a little bit more than a ChatGPT search does. They’re also a good reminder that perhaps a little madness can lead to the best ideas.

Let me know if you do the same - be nice to know I’m not alone. 🤡 ✌🏼

Giving old homes, new life.

The crew at Reborn Properties are all about turning property aspirations into reality. Whether you need a hand to maintain your castle, or you’re looking to sell your property quickly and easily to someone who can give it a bit of tender loving care - they’re your people.

It was a pleasure to help them get their journey under way. Give them a follow for some entertaining content and killer before and afters.

An organisation close to our heart 🦒❤️

Life Education Taranaki has just launched its High 5 for Harold campaign, to try and keep Harold and his mobile classrooms rolling in our community.

If you have a spare $5 to donate to their crucial health education programme, Harold and the trust would be so, so grateful.

Check out the post below for details, and follow along their new page. 🙏🏼

Say HI TO HI $5 for HAROLD 👋
We’re asking the community for $5 donations to help ensure our education programme can continue being delivered in local schools for years to come
Each year, our two mobile classrooms teach more than 12,000 Taranaki children about some of life’s toughest topics- with the purpose to help them navigate the tricky stuff, in the most positive way. 👏

Keep an eye out for Harold donation boxes all over town and have fun spotting Harold on a billboard or two. 🦒

Donations can be made via the link in below. 🔗

Give us a HI $5 if you can Taranaki , with your help let’s keep Harold rolling 🚌

He may have screwed up his out-of-office automated email, causing much stress and concern for his clients and admin lady (me), but we'll let him off considering he coached this group of amazing competitors to World Championship glory last week.

Back-to-back titles to be proud of, and now it's back to business.

It was great to get a visit from the team at the Taranaki Community Rugby Trust recently. Look how happy Jaron is. 😆

We love the work they do, and always get a thrill seeing this brand out in the community. Super proud to be a part of it.

This catch-up was somewhat hi-jacked by Hurricanes chat, with Garry, Lou and myself all reminiscing on our days working for the Canes through different eras. Good times.

TCRT is full of people with amazing experience in both rugby, sport, and Taranaki life in general. Our region is lucky. 🏉

We’ve lost count of the amount of times we’ve been asked for some tips and tricks around DIY design.

We know not everyone can afford the time or money to navigate expensive design software, and we’ve come to accept that Canva definitely has a place in the creative world, so, we decided to put together a small guide with 30 quick-fire hacks that will help enhance your Canva designs and save you time when creating content.

It’s an easy, downloadable guide, because we quickly realised running workshops would put way too much stress on our already stressed out diaries. Wellbeing first and all that jazz.

Head to the link below to grab the guide, and feel free to flick us a message if you have any questions. It's for all abilities and levels!

The colour wheel continues to provide. It blows our mind that there’s still so many colour combinations out there, waiting to be discovered.

Choosing a brand colour palette can be as scary as naming your first born. If you’re worried about stuffing it up, run it by us. We’ll make sure it suits your child, I mean business, for a lifetime. Or at least until it turns 18.

*We also have some cool kid names on the back-burner that we'll never be using, if you need help with that, too.

Features describe what something is, but benefits explain what it does for your customers and why they should care. By focusing on benefits, your copy becomes more relatable and compelling, which will go a long way to increasing engagement and conversions.

Here's a few examples to help you nail your copy.

Do the mahi, get the pies. That was Jaron's reward to himself after sending the recent issue of Live Magazine to print. He's easily pleased. 😆

Magazine life is challenging, but the real reward isn't the pies, it's having your hard work come to life in print, and then seeing it being enjoyed by others.

The latest issue of Live is a whopping 148 pages. Within that, this guy designed 91 ads and all the editorial content. In the 11 days leading up to the deadline, he clocked 130 hours alone. You do the math.

We hope you all enjoy it when it's released next week. Its editor, Irena, along with the writers and photographers, deserve a steak and cheese too.

To b***h or not to b***h, that is not the question. 😆

Bad B***h Chicken recently opened on the main street of New Plymouth and its name seems to be ruffling a few feathers.

We think this brand is the perfect marriage of person and product. We loved the challenge of helping bring to life the personality of the business owner, and the passion she pours into her product. It’s been a brave journey, and one she’s taken to prove to her family and women around her that with enough passion, you can make stuff happen.

Fundamentally, her organic fried chicken is also the baddest in town, by urban dictionary definition, and our humble opinion, that is.

So what’ya reckon? Are we a city that supports bold brands and aspirations? Or does the partial profanity make us uncomfortable? We’d love to hear your thoughts…

But how brave do mums have to be?

Happy Mother’s Day, mums. We hope you get what you deserve. 💙

Here’s Hannah with the two lights of her life who push her to her limits with their noise levels and constant snack requests. She says all it takes is for one of them to make her laugh, and all that other BS is forgotten, though.

Here’s to all of you, and everything you do. 🥂🏹✨

There's a select few words that often need a second thought before you hit publish. Do any of these ring your bells? These are the tricks we try if we're ever having doubts.

🏹 It’s v its

“It’s" joins the two words “it” and “is”. It’s time to be brave. (It is time to be brave). "Its" is possessive, meaning it belongs to something. The hedgehog took its chance.

🏹Who’s v whose

Just like the above, “who’s” joins the words “who” and “is”. Who’s coming to our party? While “whose" is possessive. Whose bow and arrow is this?

🏹Compliment v Complement

Compliment is used when you’re praising someone, or when you’re getting stuff for free. E.g. you look pretty today, or “Here, have this complimentary drink with your lobster salad”.

Complement is used when two things work well together. E.g. "That colour complements your skin perfectly". That sentence would also be a compliment, though. Yikes.

🏹Affect v Effect

"Affect” is a 'doing word' that makes a difference to something e.g. The flooding affected more than 100 homes. "Effect" can be said to describe the result of an action e.g. The new lights have a positive effect on the show.

🏹 E.g v i.e

E.g. means "for example", while i.e. is a way to offer further clarification.
E.g. I am passionate about all sorts of sports, i.e. basketball, bow hunting, backgammon.

What a mouthful. Did we miss any of your favourites?

Time to begin the famine before the feast. Coz we’re all about balance here at FTB.

We love being a part of Feastival Taranaki for a number of reasons…

1. It forces us to go on a date.
2. We experience some amazing people and places we’d never make time to go to ourselves due to work/kids/introvert tendencies.
3. We’ve never left a Feastival event without an entertaining story to tell (or maybe not tell). 🤐
4. The food, the FOOD, THE FOOD. 🤤

This season we’re signing up for Blanc de Blanc Jazz Long Lunch at the Nice Hotel, Rum & Carne-age at Frederic’s and maybe another if we can swing a babysitter…who’s joining us?

Our vision

Favour the Brave is a design, public relations and marketing firm who see ourselves as the bow to your arrow. While you are set and ready to break new ground, you can trust us to take the care, attention and precision to ensure your vision is launched in an accurate, powerful and inspiring way.

The name Favour the Brave comes from a desire to work with individuals and businesses who are wanting to push the boundaries. This includes those who are brave enough to launch themselves out of their comfort zone in order to break new ground, whether that be through having the courage to start their own business, or perhaps look at alternative marketing and PR opportunities that will set them apart from the rest. We are all about supporting the ideas of those who are excited about what they are doing and have a desire to succeed in both business and self-gratification. The name is also designed to keep us accountable and challenge our knowledge, creativity, courage and bravery on a daily basis.
