It's sad that 4 years after our first series launched, we still see articles like this where people describe the lack of (after) care when experiencing miscarriage or stillbirth:

Kiwi mums share their stories of how the current system only made things worse.

Dear ,

A reminder that this documentary Misconceptions - First Trimester Miscarriages can be watched on TVNZ+
Or on www.misconceptions.co.nz

It may help you and your loved ones get some understanding of this often hidden loss.

Miscarriage is more common than you think - but it's hardly ever talked about, leaving many grieving parents feeling alone. This documentary aims to break down the myths and provide practical help, with Kiwis sharing their own personal stories.

“With the psilocybin [and] psychedelics, they’ve all had similar results. They’ve been good for trauma, depression, anxiety, addictions.

“It’s really amazing stuff. Any studies on this, they’ve all had similar effects.”

Psilocybin research has shown that it can treat various mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety and addictions."

We met some of the strongest people when making this series and we are very grateful to them for allowing us into their experiences.

Our Deputy Director and Lived Experience Lead, Ivan Yeo (He/Him), shared his personal experience of mental distress with candour and honesty, highlighting how anxiety has impacted his life. The team at Digital Alchemist produced an amazing documentary, "Unravelling Anxiety," available for viewing at https://www.misconceptions.co.nz/unravelling-anxiety. Additionally, you can watch "Unravelling Anxiety Extra - Ivan" on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRq30yAhU0Y. Starting as the Pilot Peer Support Worker program funded by Auckland Te Whatu Ora in mid-2004, Ivan worked with Like Minds, Like Mine to address stigma and discrimination at the Mental Health Foundation. During that time, he supported the Chinese mental health consumer self-support group Bo Ai She with many activities to enhance the Chinese lived experience of mental distress. Now, with Asian Family Services (AFS), we are committed to bringing back Asian lived experiences through the support of the Ethnic Advisory Group https://www.asianfamilyservices.nz/services/ethnic-advisory-group/.

We monitor miscarriage FB groups and anxiety FB groups daily and often link to our two documentary web series for people that could do with more understanding.
More understanding of their situation and more understanding from those around them.

This comment came up today on a post about miscarriage. It is both wonderful and sad that our series is sometimes the only resource that speaks to them, especially because it was launched 3 years ago.

At the same time, we are very happy and proud we are helping people ❤️

One in four Kiwis are affected by an anxiety disorder at some point in their lives, so why is there still silence and shame surrounding it? We hear from everyday NZers and some well-known faces as they open up about their personal experiences.

Today took a strange turn when I went for a walk on the beach.

I saw a bunch of clothes and a bag that were (too) casually left near the water, about to be taken by the ocean in the rising tide.
I asked a nearby lady if the items belonged to her, and she said no. We then put the clothes and bag in a pile a bit higher up so they wouldn't be swept away.

The way the items were left felt off. It was too casual and therfore it was disconcerting.

So, I walked to the swim club and talked to a group of ladies who had just done their weekly ocean swim. Two of them came with me, and they, too, felt it was strange.

In the distance, we saw a lady trying to pass the rising tide to get back to the beach; she had been on the rocks that were now submerged by the ocean.
There was something about her walk that was so casual. We all felt the items must belong to her.
When we got closer to her, we asked if the items were hers, and she said they were and that "they needed a good wash anyway."

She told us today wasn't the day, God told her not today, and implied she had been thinking of ending her life by jumping off the rocks.

Her girlfriend had left her. That was the catalyst for her to think life wasn't worth living.

We had a brief chat, and we all parted ways. When I left the beach parking lot, I saw the lady had put all her clothes back on and was walking on the beach lost in thought, I imagine.

She saved herself today, and I hope she keeps putting one foot in front of the other and learns to love herself.

Talk to people if you're not okay. Even strangers. Because people do care.
