Severe Weather Outlook issued by MetService.

A moist southeast flow will cover central and southern New Zealand over the weekend, with rain affecting many eastern and central areas

Heavy northeasterly rain which is currently affecting the Coromandel Peninsula and Bay of Plenty should continue into Saturday while easing during the day. There is moderate confidence that rainfall amounts reaching warning criteria will continue on Saturday.

For Gisborne and Hawkes Bay, there is a moderate risk of periods of heavy rain reaching warning criteria from Saturday to Tuesday, however, the rain will probably ease for a time on Monday.

On Tuesday, a deepening sub-tropical low is likely to approach the North Island bringing gales and rain to some northern and central areas. At this stage, there is considerable uncertainty regarding the movement and timing of this low, and consequently, there is low confidence that severe gales (mainly southeasterly, but possibly turning southwest over the northern North Island) could affect parts of the North Island on Tuesday. This is being monitored and further updates will be issued if the situation changes.

If you or manuhiri are camping near creeks, rivers, or low-lying areas prone to flooding, exercise caution, given that river levels can rise quickly. Roads are already fragile so please drive to the conditions.

Get the board games out for the next few days whanau!

Kia tupato
