The first image has today been released for our film Pike River: a major dramatic NZ feature film, directed by Rob Sarkies (Out of the Blue, Consent: The Louise Nicholas Story) and written by Fiona Samuel (Consent, Bliss), is based on the November 2010 Pike River Mine tragedy that took the lives of 29 men underground.

✨ Starring three-time Emmy nominee Melanie Lynskey (Yellow Jackets, Heavenly Creatures) who plays Anna Osborne, alongisde acclaimed NZ actress Robyn Malcolm (After the Party, Outrageous Fortune) as Sonya Rockhouse, with Lucy Lawless (My Life Is Murder, Xena: Warrior Princess) playing unionist Helen Kelly and Tim Gordon (Consent: The Louise Nicholas Story, District 9) as Pike Family Commitee spokesperson Bernie Monk.

In Aotearoa NZ cinemas later this year.

Our Story

Madman is a leading independent film and television distribution and rights management company, with offices in Australia, New Zealand and Berlin. Home to more than 100 employees across all divisions, including Madman Productions, theatrical sales, marketing, publicity, digital aggregation and agency distribution. Madman is renowned for its commitment to quality New Zealand films, international features and documentary content.

In 2013 Madman formally launched it’s own production arm, Madman Production Company, dedicated to development, finance and production of film and television. In the digital space, using it’s own in-house technical team in 2014 Madman launched the first of 3 VoD streaming services called AnimeLab. It now boasts over 700k registered users in just Australia and New Zealand. The second service DocPlay, dedicated to streaming the world’s best documentaries, launched in 2016. The third service Garage was acquired in 2017 and is set for re-launch on our own platform later this year.
