the new team Windsurfer Lt New Zealand , participating for the first time in the 2025 Australian windsurfer championship, scored a title by winning in the lightweight category with Michael Kilduff
Doug Ferguson's performance was also very good, finishing in the top 10.
Legend Claudio Barbuzza achieved third place in the over 60s, remaining constant in the middle of the overall rankings.
An excellent experience which gave the opportunity to evaluate the technical racing skills of the new Windsurfer LT New Zealand team.
Ready for the next appointment on March 21st for the fantastic "Interdominion" regatta scheduled for March 21/23 2025

TAURANGA HARBOUR JAM 2024 began with the promotion of windsurfing by offering free lessons to interested people. Many interested in the Windsurfer Lt class had the opportunity to try the board and appreciate its versatile qualities in many wind conditions.

This was followed by the skippers' meeting to explain the slalom regattas scheduled in two different courses. One dedicated to beginners in the "silver and bronze fins” class regattas. Another dedicated to the more experienced in the "gold fin" class.

The "gold fins’" category included 13 participants with different types of windsurfs. Three raced with Windsurfer Lt, the three years reigning champion Claudio Barbuzza, the Kiwi multiple medallist in the 1984/88 Olympics Bruce Kendall, and the former New Zealand Olympic athlete Doug Ferguson.

Eight races were completed. During the first few races the wind was around 12 knots, picking up to up to 16 knots in the last 4 races. In the first race, Bruce took the second place overall, with the standard 5.7 m2 rig out of all the windsurfers including the foiling boards with unlimited sail sizes. He was followed by Doug and Claudio.
The last and windiest races saw the Windsurfer LT boards finish closer to the Unlimited Windsurfing boards including foiling boards and saw the Windsurfer Lt sailors passing wing foiling sailors.

The open classes had had enough racing after 6 races, while the Windsurfer Lt sailors had energy for 2 more races. The Windsurfer Lt loads are less than those experienced foiling.

After the racing, Doug and Bruce sailed out through the entrance to play in the large waves caused by the strong out going current and 15 to 20 knot incoming tide. Bruce wanted to test the Windsurfer LT in extreme conditions and was very pleased with how it performed. “Really good fun to surf and gybe on the large steep waves.” Very much looking forward to the next windsurfing event.

The next scheduled regatta is Tamaki Estuary Cascade and Motu Challenge at Bucklands Beach, scheduled for the 23 and 24 November .
