**** So as a lot of you may know the competition has been hijacked with over 300 comments from a page that has duplicated us and is advising folks they have won and directing them to a fake site. I don't need to say this but don't click the link and then fill out the information on there! If you could report the fake page that would be grand! Ill try get rid of as many comments as I can but Facebook doesnt have a fast way of doing this! ****

Went storm chasing New Years Eve along with Stephen Burrows and Mike Stewart.

We traveled as far south as Geraldine and at one point we saw a brief funnel while driving along.

It was a fair bit later in the day when the upper air got coldest and a few storms triggered so we could get some night time shots. I had been trying to get a lightning photo with the Rakaia salmon in the foreground for years, sort of managed it but wasn't exactly what I was after, was hoping for a really nice big bit of forked lightning in the shot, none the less better than nothing!

Got a cool photo of a cumulonimbus cloud (thunderstorm cloud) illuminated by lightning as it started to move over Banks Peninsula, had just brewed up right over Chch before moving east.

Happy new year and here's to more cool storms in 2024!

This is a little project myself and Aaron thought up a few years ago but just never got round to launching. After a chat last week a new youtube channel was born. Fantastic footage capturing 18 minutes of the dueling waterspouts this morning off Foxton Beach. I've sped most of the footage up to 16x to show the motion of the two waterspouts circling each other, before one wins the battle. Thanks Millie Blair for sharing and well done keeping the camera upright for that long!
