Handmade from clay at her home in Tauranga, her first collection is a nod to the Brutalist architecture of London’s Barbican building, in which she once lived, and her grandad, who spent 30 years running Taranaki’s Firth concrete plant. Recycled bricks look and feel beautiful underfoot on the ground floor of architect Natasha Markham of .studio⁠'s place. “They’re really irregular, which caused some head-scratching for the tilers,” she says. “We didn’t know how that would turn out, but I remember seeing them ground back and thinking, ‘Yes, this works.’” Layered with an elegant edit of vintage furniture pieces that Natasha has collected over the years, we tend to agreed.

The home's pale colour palette is continued in the ensuite (slides one and two), but extra texture brings interest in elements like the same tile used in fluted and flat formats. Meanwhile, in the main bathroom (slides three and four), stronger tones are seen, with a hint of green. Which is your favourite space?⁠

Sustainability is a key driver for (alongside ) who are happy to include elements like the rainwater retention tanks they added during the renovation of this address, but always consider the fundamentals inherent in a design first, like the way they let more sunlight in and upgraded the joinery to reduce electricity usage, and recycled and repurposed existing rooms to avoid waste — and the roofline and pool as well. As the duo behind local footwear brand .tribe, Emma and Dane Winter are well-versed in overseeing creative projects. After buying a '70s do-up recently, the couple's confidence to create something of substance was spurred on by their existing relationship with interior design studio . From the first site visit, it became apparent the original intention of an update of the kitchens and bathrooms would be just the start of the alterations need to bring the interior into line with how the family wanted the house to flow. Ōtautahi/Christchurch artist ' muse is pure fantasy but a real inspiration.⁠ Coming to us from her garden studio, Julia explained how she made up a fictional character, late artist-designer Florence Weir, and uses her to guide her practice, central to which is an interest in art history and women practitioners, and how archives might allow us to engage with the current moment. "Although art making can be a pretty solo occupation, I’m happiest when my practice involves other makers or people," says Julia.
