I've always loved words. I love to create and connect and cultivate with them and when it comes to Storytelling I've found this to be absolutely powerful when done from the heart. I love using Stories to express ideas, relate to things and unpacking emotions. Storiess are amazing as a healing balm too.

Recently my daughter was grappling with some big emotions. She would draw Monsters everywhere. I encouraged her to put some words to her Monsters and from that this book was formed. Perhaps it will be a healing balm for your little one too.

Sometimes our tamariki, children, parents, siblings, Whānau come in different ways. Tamariki can be gifts from above in the form of whangai or adopted children. When this happens a special bond is often formed, one that is carved, shaped and nurtured intentionally. Heart connections are forged and fired for a lifetime. When this happens a shift seems to take place and the world seems to fit together just that little bit more snuggly. ❤️

A mother is usually their child's first kaiako (teacher) of te reo (the language) and tikanga (customs), instilling in her children the values and practices of their culture. It's not about being perfect just modelling authentic ways of being and connecting heart to heart. When we are short circuited by perhaps not receiving this by our mothers it can be difficult to pass it forward, but not impossible. Our old ways of being which were to treat our tamariki with mana and respect are within our dna and we can tap into this ancient knowledge through connection with Te Taiao, karakia and observing our Tiikanga practices. Through this rememberance we can tap back in to the ever flowing wells of Ancient knowledge and practice and our tiikanga or Manaakitanga and Aroha can spring forth again watering our Uri through all the generations that follow.

Papatuuaanuku, the Atua of all that nourishes and surrounds us, our Mother who sustains us and shelters us.

A mother often dedicates a lifetime to nurturing and protecting her children, her love the unbreakable shield against life's battles. When our mother is unavailable it leaves a vacuum and leaves us vulnerable. We may find that we are blessed with an equal love from a Whangai Mother but when this lacks we may turn to our Mother, Papatuuaanuku who is always present, always nurturing and always loving. We can find her just outside our door beneath our feet. How comforting is that!!!

She is the bearer of aroha (love), her unconditional love being the greatest gift she offers, binding the family together. Although the small things done day to day are often overlooked and taken for granted they demonstrate the precious love that is carried within the everyday. Although small it is precious.

Ofa to our Tama'e and Faa'ee, our Grandparents, Kaumatua....we are grateful for those that support us in many ways to find our feet when we are thrown into the deep end of life. Grandparents hold many keys to doors of knowledge that they may not have had the chance to open for us or that we walked past in our haste to live our own lives. They can pass these keys to their Grandchildren in ways that we may not have known was possible. Infact many times I have said to my own mother what a different person she is to how I remember her being. They are invaluable and we love them.

When a child grows up in their Country speaking their own languages and knowing their own Culture it creates a strong and unbreakable connection and foundation that holds them for their whole lives. The benefits echo through the lines of generations that follow. Where is your place of strength?

We are capable of greatness from whence we came. Just a reminder of the strength you already carry within. Being all to our tamariki comes at a cost. We have to realise that some days we can carry the lot and other days it's okay to let others help and support. But everyday we are great and full of the potential for more.

It's my daughters birthday this week, and more than anything she wanted to be with her Nan who lives in another Country. So together with our Whaanau we decided to bring her Nan to her birthday and she has been stuck to her side ever since she landed. Grandparents or older Kaumatua who lovingly take our tamariki under their wise wings are immeasurably invaluble. They can love freely and share many wisdoms and skills that we were "too busy" to take to. They provide a forever foundation of love and security that our tamariki can draw upon right throughout their lives. I'm so grateful.

"If love is sown, then love will blossom."

When love is given freely and nurtured it will grow and return in kind.
The very nature of choosing to nuture your child at home and be the one that navigates with them through the seas of knowledge and unknowingness is an act of love itself.

It's a beautiful expression of the cyclical nature of love within a Whanau's life.
