BREAKING NEWS! Change to the bike course for 2020!

We have reviewed the bike course for our Middle Distance race on Saturday 15th Feb, the 2020 Challenge Asia Pacific Championships, to take competitors off busy roads and explore more beauty that the Southern Lakes region has to offer.

Competitors will now continue around the lake to Aubrey Road on the return from the Glendhu Bay leg, rather than going uphill through the township and busy intersections.

The next change we are looking to implement will be a left turn opposite the Wanaka airport onto Mt Barker Road, through to Faulks Road then Ballantyne Road and a left turn at Wastebusters corner. This route through the valley will open up some more spectacular scenery for our competitors.

Our final change, which no doubt will please our regular athletes, is a return to the final downhill through town on McDougall Street to the finish. Our amazing traffic management team from Southern Safety will create a bike lane down the centre of the road and traffic from all side streets will need to turn left.

Race Director, Bill Roxburgh says, “These changes will enhance the competitor experience on the bike course and I am pleased that we have come to an improved resolution on the roads for safety and traffic congestion."
