BREAKING NEWS: A member of the South of Port Waikato community says people have been breaching the Auckland border and wants Covid-19 police checkpoints to be set up at Port Waikato and Onewhero village.

One Onewhero village resident told 95bFM that traffic using local roads to travel in and out of Auckland has quadrupled since NZ went to Alert Level 3 on August 31 and believes the traffic is non-local people breaching border restrictions.

The resident says local police have been patrolling the area intermittently but believes the police are only stopping 5 or 10 percent of the traffic going through.

A Police spokesperson told 95bFM that they have patrols working on a 24/7 basis in the area, that they are stopping all vehicles they encounter to ensure any travel is permitted and anyone found attempting to cross the boundary will face enforcement action.

Despite this, the resident says the community feels that not enough is being done to prevent people travelling out of Auckland and potentially spreading Covid-19 to the wider New Zealand population.

Listen News and Editorial Director Jemima Huston’s full report and interview with the Onewhero village resident on the 95bFM website.

Earlier this week Thomas Nail, a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Denver in the United States, wrote an article titled: Why is walking so good for the brain? Blame it on the "spontaneous fluctuations". This article spoke about walking: how it affects our brains, and whether it could actu...
