Filming with the rugby boys was some hard mahi but rewarding - especially in that Taihape winter weather 🥶 A lot of heart in this episode e te iwi 🫶🏽. We also get the women’s team in there too - lessssgoooo💪🏽 Here is the trailer for the Rātana Rugby episode coming up this Sunday 10am TV1.

Me and the boys! The team behind We Are Rātana being screened on TVNZ. So grateful to have been given the opportunity to direct this series and even better, to have been welcomed into the community. We've been fed, hugged, let into people's homes and had some good laughs along the way. Weaving together everyone's stories into this TV series has been a really massive experience and I hope you enjoy the watch into this unique community xx Sunday mornings 10am TVNZ.

Last Waka Huia for the year for me! Thank you 2023, what a year. So lucky to have been able to spend nearly a week with Rapaera and his whānau in the Ruatoki Valley, at his home, learning the ways. Te Reo Māori is such a natural part of every day life in Tuhoe land. Had to adjust my ear a little to get that Tuhoe mita on lock hehe, you know, had to be ready for my come backs lol. We went onto the river, Ōhinemataroa, to do some eeling with the boys, and dam that water was clear as! No weeds, no sludge, can see the stones right at the bottom. Shout out to the man on the camera Kingi and Darren on sound.

My first time as director, doing a long form prime-time documentary of this kind, I was very fortunate to meet Tui Taurua who welcomed me into her life and allowed me to share her story, of how she was stigmatised for hearing voices and institutionalised for more than two decades, because the western world of medicine did not understand it from a Māori world view. https://www.tvnz.co.nz/shows/i-am/episodes/s4-e6
