🚨#Breaking: Tropical #CycloneJASPER is now Category2️⃣ and is expected to become Severe Category 3 tonight/overnight as it rapidly strengthens.
🌀Currently: 🇸🇧Offshore from #SolomonIslands.
⚠️Heading: ↙️SW towards #Queensland #Australia in 4 to 6 days from now.
There is no threat to New Zealand.
#TCJasper
📽️It's the last Friday of #November 2023 and this is how it looks in the first part of the world saying hello to Friday evening.
(6pm here in #NewZealand anyway!) 🍻🌷🌅
Have a great weekend 😊
🚨🌀Severe Category3️⃣ Tropical #CycloneMal is swiping the south western corner of #Fiji right now.
However it's fair to say (based on the maps at least) that Fiji has dodged a bullet for the most part. #MAL
Current situation:
🇳🇿8:30am NZDT
🇫🇯7:30am FIJI
⚠️🌀💨Despite #CycloneMal finally reaching severe Category3️⃣ status overnight, the centre of the storm has remained offshore to the west.
Here's the next 6 hour wind projection, as the sun rises shortly over #Fiji.
🚨🌀🌪️🇫🇯Here's the next 6 hour high resolution wind projection for the core/centre of #CycloneMal. Our high resolution data is powered by IBM. It's a close call for #Nadi westwards but it's good to see the centre so far sticking westwards. We'll update this wind animation again after midnight as it may still move closer to Viti Levu.

🌀☄️#Mal looks like a #meteor burning through the atmosphere over the next week ahead!
🎥This animation shows Tropical Cyclone #MAL as it moves through the tropics, enters the sub-tropics and falls apart over the next 8 days as it runs into colder conditions and high pressure.
🚨🇫🇯🌀💧Next 48 hours rainfall over #Fiji (from the Australian model) showing 150mm to 200+ over the northern ranges of #VitiLevu.
⚠️Rainfall may go higher, follow official warnings from Fiji Met Service.
One positive in the modelling is that #TCMal is expected to track by fairly quickly overnight/Wednesday AM.
Tropical Cyclone #MAL continues to strengthen, with "Severe" Category 3 expected in the coming hours as it approaches #FIJI from the north-west (tracking SE). It's possible winds at the centre may reach 140km/h, gusting 170km/h overnight tonight. For now though, those worst winds still look to be offshore to the west of Nadi overnight. It may still track further eastwards towards Viti Levu.
🚨🌀Category1️⃣Tropical Cyclone #MAL.
Latest tracking shows #Nadi westwards most at risk. However it's important to realise the wind from this storm is still developing & may yet fan out further over #VitiLevu, especially if tracking changes. Heavy Rain looks likely regardless of precise tracking of #TCMal. #Fiji
⛈️Good news for #Queensland right now with widespread #thunderstorms⚡️stretching north to south through the state's dry interior.
Cooler easterlies keep the coastline storm free but those storms form well inland where those winds #MeetTheHeat!

🌀🌡️Yesterday a lot of people in northern & eastern NZ talked of using heat pumps, fires and heaters again ... today as the low falls apart, there's a sub-tropical feed coming in and with the sun out for more people it's significantly warmer!
Windows open / fresh air 🪟😊
🌀👋Today is the last day the northern low pressure system will be so prominent. Tomorrow it entirely falls apart.
See those thunderstorms in the Tasman Sea? A new low is forming there.
By Wednesday afternoon the northern low has GONE & the new western low MOVES IN.
#Spring!
📽️🛰️🌀Past 6 hours satellite imagery (water vapour). You can clearly see the swirl at the centre as the low has been deepening / getting better organised today.
☔️Broken up / patchy rain clouds. But the slow movement of the low means some areas may have slow moving heavy rain.
🌀A large Low is deepening just north of #NewZealand.
💪High pressure over the South Island will stall this low offshore for the next two days.
⬅️Prolonged windy easterlies, peaking tonight &/or Monday for most in the north.

☔️Sky Conditions: Patchy rain & showers moving through
↗️Wind: Fairly breezy Sou'Wester
🌡️Temperature: Around 14c
Next 72 hours show a new sub-tropical low rapidly deepening, then weakening again as it moves into northern #NewZealand and into a big belt of high pressure.
🌀A bit of a wobble overnight saw #LOLA shift closer to #Vanuatu's capital #Vila - but the good news today is that #TCLola has weakened further and is no longer a "severe" TC. As of now it is Category 2 and continuing to weaken as it heads towards #NewCaledonia.
🚨🌀The worst of Severe Tropical Cyclone #LOLA is now gradually moving away from #Vanuatu. However damaging gales still remain in exposed areas, plus heavy rain & thunderstorms across this evening - slowly easing overnight.

🇻🇺#5pm Vanuatu
🚨🌀Severe #TCLola is showing signs of weakening. It's been tracking at near human walking speed over #Vanuatu for nearly 24 hours now.
The good news? It's moving offshore to the west now - & it's going to speed up as it moves away & weaken rapidly.
