🎶✨ Introducing our latest competition with support from Te Rourou, One Aotearoa Foundation! We are stoked to announce The Te Reo Māori Songwriting Competition. Previously, we celebrated te reo with the Junior Maioha Award, but now we want to recognise the incredible young songwriters weaving te reo Māori into their waiata with a te reo specific competition. Our guest judge is the one and only Rei Music – Play It Strange alumni from 2011! Since going through Play It Strange, Rei has won 6 Waiata Māori Awards, been nominated for 4 Aotearoa Music Awards and has had over 10 million streams on Spotify. The winner of the competition will receive a 1:1 mentoring session with Rei, a $500 Rockshop NZ gift card, and their song professionally recorded. The Te Reo Māori Songwriting Competition is open NOW to all rangatahi aged 13-18 years. Your song must feature te reo but can include any other languages. We can’t wait to hear your waiata! Get your entries in before 31 July🎶🗓️

Grace Gemmell won The Lion Foundation song writing competition in 2023 at just 15 years old. Grace is a prime example that age is just a number and creativity has no age. Last year we had over 300 entires and Grace's song 'Will You Love Me' was the overall winner.
