How my great grandad would have described my Tiny Home
In a land of wide expanses and the relentlessly beating sun, there stands the noble simplicity of the Tiny Home. No more than a hundred square feet, this stout-hearted dwelling takes little but offers much. Walls firm and unyielding, timber touched by craftsmen, shaped by necessity and the human hand.
Imagine a world where the dream of homeownership is not just a fantasy for the privileged few but a reality accessible to many. In the face of soaring real estate prices, crippling rents around Aotearoa and the struggle for affordable housing, the tiny home movement emerges not merely as a trend but as a potent remedy to the crisis enveloping our cities. In this post, we will explore the transformative power of tiny homes and why developing tiny house villages could signal a new era of sustainability, affordability, and community.

Do you live in a Tiny Home here in New Zealand? Can we tell your story?
This morning I took the opportunity to visit Rob & Sue who have been staying at Hongoeka Bay, Plimmerton here in NZ. They have been camping out in Robs Double Decker Bus. Rob purchased the bus from NZ Coach Services (Naenae) seven years ago. Since that time, the bus has been a labour of love requiring significant work to make it watertight and a cool place to live.
470 square metres and it is based in Green Island, Dunedin. It has a water connection to the boundary of the section. It would be ideal for a self-contained motor home.
Enough space for two Tiny Homes to rent in Kaikohe
The owner would like to give people with mobile tiny houses a chance to live reasonably cheap on freehold land in Kaikohe town.
It is 600M2 of flat bare land partly fenced off, all in grass & weeds, Great for kids and pets to run around on.
For rent: Long term park up for a tiny home / self contained caravan.
Quiet rural location close to Omakau with awesome panoramic views!
We have 2ha of flat land just 2.5km from Omakau with easy access. Just a 20 minute drive to Alexandra and 40 minutes to Ranfurly.
We do have a couple of cows and some sheep in the field (behind an electric fence) so can only consider pets that are stock friendly unfortunately.
The land is situated in Heriot.
Heriot is in West Otago, nestled between the Leithen Bush at the bottom of the Southern Alps and to the East is the Blue Mountains.
The land is at 00 Dee Street, Heriot. It is located opposite the town Hotel for food amenities – A Burger bar is located nearby
It is flat and great for Tiny Home/Caravan living as it is in the central town area and services are nearby. The section would be a ¼ acre - with x3 lots available for Tiny houses.
No services available at this time – there is the option for services to be connected but this would require discussion and planning – town services run along the land but have never been connected.
Fencing is yet to done, and can be erected once decide if prospective tenant would like one or two plots at a time

New Zealand’s largest tiny house event is back for 2021. Proudly sponsored by OneRoof, the Tiny House Expo will take place on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 October at Auckland Showgrounds (formerly ASB Showgrounds).
This year’s two-day event expects to welcome over 10,000 attendees through its doors to check out the latest innovative products from over 100 exhibitors and over 35 tiny houses on display at the Tiny House Village – including tiny homes from many of New Zealand’s most popular builders.
On Saturday, visitors will also have the opportunity to hear from tiny house dwellers, builders and experts at the Conference which runs in parallel with the Expo. This year’s keynote speaker is none other than Kiwi Bryce Langston, host of the popular YouTube web series Living Big in a Tiny House which has over 4 million subscribers. Bryce has met and interviewed tiny house dwellers around the globe and will share his extensive experience at the conference. Bryce will be joined by other inspiring speakers who will share their tiny living stories.
With no road access, these triathletes' new home had to arrive by boat
hen former world-class triathletes Erin Baker and Scott Molina decided to make a second home in an isolated spot in the middle of Abel Tasman National Park, they needed a solution to the fact their new site was boat-access only.
So they bought a 45 square metre tiny home and transported it in by barge.
Baker and Scott bought the 4 hectare section at Awaroa last year, and last weekendhad their Ruru tiny home transported up the coast by sea shuttle. At Awaroa, which is home to about 30 baches on private land, it was shifted to its site by tractor and poles.

After her divorce, Sue Boyce realised she would never get back on the housing lady
In March 2018, home ownership was at its lowest in almost 70 years. Since then the median price has almost doubled and rent is up by a quarter. Stuff’s Off the Ladder series talks to those priced out of the market.
It was a year after her divorce that Sue Boyce says she realised she would never own another home.
She was 51, had five children to care for including two foster children, and wasn’t able to get enough equity out of the family’s farm when it was sold to get back on the ladder.
The Timaru resident is one of a growing number of divorcees — particularly women — who are permanently off the housing ladder.

Welcome to Kiwi Tiny Home a lifestyle magazine
Over the past couple of years, I have really looked for solutions that would provide me with the lifestyle I LOVE.
“We also want to show people that going tiny is far from missing out in fact I think you will pleasantly surprised as our articles and insights grow.”
I have worked from home now for many years but the next stage for me is to prepare for the next ten years when I enter into retirement age. Not that I am going to retire but I am likely to want to slow down a little. Hoping there will be grandchildren to spoil and new adventures at this time.
To help me get to where I want to be I am going to achieve two major goals in the next six months.
Start this online magazine to help other Kiwi’s who like me want to be Mortage/Rent FREE
Build my very own tiny home. During my journey, I will be blogging along the way and hope I can provide tips and inspiration for those who may be considering a different sort of life.
If you are an existing tiny home builder or provide materials and supplies to this industry I would love to hear from you. If you have already built your tiny home or are already on your way please touch base so we can share your story as well. This way we will create a kiwi tiny home community which I hope will support and encourage each other every step along the path to freedom.
