Shaggy Inspiration, W&D x 1964 Journal

From the start, Wilson & Dorset shaggy bags have been a place to pause, unwind, and dive into a book—or a unique magazine.

Nathan Weathington, publisher and co-founder of 1964, lived at Dublin Bay in Wānaka, where the idea for Wilson & Dorset originally began. Amanda approached Nathan to test the durability of the original Shaggy Bag.

“You’ve met my sons, right?!? They’re wild. They destroy stuff,” Nathan responded. They were perfect for Amanda’s intense-use trial. Even after a decade of the hardest wear and tear, the original Shaggy Bag is still going strong, having outlasted even the pine furniture the boys somehow were able to destroy.

The original Shaggy Bag was also a place for inspiration, where Nathan’s concept for 1964: mountain culture / aotearoa was conceived.

“Life was getting faster, busier, flashier. Sitting in the Shaggy Bags, I just liked the idea of slowing down, reading something cover to cover. And now, five years later we are heading into our 20th issue, and thousands of pages have been proofed in our Shaggy Bag in front of the fire. It’s the perfect place to read 1964.”

"A delicate, but intense, world in miniature."

Two years ago, Laura wrote about a new chamber music festival in the Southern Lakes. We've been hooked on classical ever since, which is good news, because  is back again this month.

There will be performances in Wānaka, Bannockburn, Cromwell and Queenstown, with both ticketed and free events on offer.

We'll be heading to Rippon Hall on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 October to hone our chamber chops at the Wānaka shows.

Our fav photographer/writer/nurse/skier has made a film.
The national tour of The War on Style by kicks off tomorrow in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and heads down to the Southern Lakes in August. Get amongst.

The lowdown:

Bilous adds a couple more qualifications to his quiver: skier, surfer, writer, nurse – now director and producer. The War on Style opens the lid on Bilous’ creative mind – exploring the difference between technical skills and self-expression by applying these concepts to his familiar and unfamiliar worlds of skiing, surfing, nursing, skateboarding and more.
