For a while I’ve been concerned about a few of things around this election, politics in general - and also the way that we are increasingly living in our own echo chambers of views and beliefs.

We have become accustomed to political point scoring and sound bites - which is a direct result of the news cycle and lack of depth in reporting. This perhaps, in turn effects our ability to apply any degree of critical thinking around subjects. And there’s no question that increasing numbers of people turning towards social media for their news - can result in less compassion, understanding and respect for people with differing viewpoints to our own.

So… I decided to invite 4 local candidates to get together for an informal chat. These were.

- Chris Penk from the National Party
- Zephyr Brown from the Green Party
- Beth Holbrooke from ACT
- And Marja Lubeck - from the Labour Party

I'll be publishing these in reverse order - starting with Marja Lubeck from the Labour Party.

What I didn’t want to do in these chats was get too much into comparing differing policies between parties - there’s plenty of places where you can dive into to compare those. This was more about getting to know the person, their beliefs, their passions. Allowing them as much time to reply - go off on tangents and rabbit holes - as see what we discovered together.
I received no money or funding for these - and as you’ll hear - I wear my political colours on my sleeve.

I hope you enjoy them - and who knows - perhaps we can open this up for further conversations int he future.

Introduction to the 4 interviews based around the 2020 NZ Election.
