Lighting outdoor fires without a permit has been banned throughout the Auckland region from today until further notice. Fire & Emergency NZ says recent warm, dry weather has led to a high fire risk, with any rain forecast not enough to counter potential fire threats. Anyone wanting to light an outside fire must visit www.checkitsalright.nz to check restrictions and get a permit, or contact their local fire brigade. All Hauraki Gulf islands remain in a prohibited fire season, meaning outdoor fires are already completely banned.
