Wow I thought this was really cool.
A friend of mine shared a Vid with me when we were producing a Track for the Mighty Terra Novas and I was trying to get their Guitar Sound Right.
The Track ended up on Spotify.
Wow These Guys Wrote full on complicated but beautiful chord progressions.
We recorded with a Zack Wylde Gibson through a Blackstar Tube Amp, Blackstar amps are effectively Marshall the best employees and engineers left Marshall and formed their own company Blackstar.
I stuck a Rode NTK full on 5 pin tube mic in front of it with a Telefunken tube which was pulled out of an old Russian Submarine !!
That Went through a Black Lion Audio Auteur Mkii as a Pre-amp.
Expensive but Tube is for Audio people so warm and so worth it.
We recorded with the mighty Logic Pro X the Video is me testing the PFL for The Mic and DI.
One of my favourite things to do is the recording and capturing process watch your PFL you can make stuff louder in Digital easily, but if you Red line theres no fixing it, headroom is God in recording 😃

Ok so many of my international friends have contacted me about the Eruption in Tonga
All I have to say is we cannot land aircraft there safely due to volcanic ash.
The Fibre cable under the sea has been damaged and no communication except for Sat phones is possible.
We have deployed our Hercules to make supply drops.
We have deployed our Navy to rescue people
We remain Whanau to our brothers and sisters in Tounga you are not alone, the people of Aotearoa will not see you fall.
Aroha whanau help is coming we are here

NZ Mobile Recording is going to reach out to the community here in Aotearoa, we plan to teach free classes in Music Production at the local community centre and offer our services for free to The Auckland Musicians Club. for any band that would like to record.
We need to nurture our home grown talent here educate and inspire.

The Past The Future ??

Recording is very important capturing the moment at the exact time.

So many Engineers are Post Fader remember everything can be done in post.

To get a truly good recording one must monitor Pre Fader level whats going in.

This post is to the past masters who had only one take and one Mic to get it right.

This is a live recording of a jam between a Bass Player & a Dj recorded in West Auckland New Zealand.
Auckland Dj Mr Cobb and West Aukland Bass Player Garrard Hobson deliver their brand of live Tek House.
Yes I believe they are going to be doing nightclubs and festivals and are available to do parties !!
This is demo number one.
They have recorded demo number two.
They are working on demo number three.
We are working on getting a camera pointed at these guys asap as its really interesting to see how they are actually making these sounds.

What an amazing day we had recording Hip Hop with the unbelievably talented Dylan Devaur in West Auckland yesterday.

Kia ora katoua,
So many of us are experiencing lockdown for the 2nd time or maybe it never ended wherever you are, stay safe stay strong.

So here's a post and some ideas and thoughts on an upcoming project that requires live streaming live mixing and recording with the best Audio quality.

The Project:
A Tek house group who use live Musicians want to Live Stream a one hour set.
They Require a Full Dj Setup, Mixers, mastering, dry and wet send effects from their instruments.
They require a seperate Monitoring system because of the live and improvisational nature of the music.

So how do we run 6 to 8 channels of live mix audio down a Stream and give this group their solo out monitoring situation that they require ?

That is no problem in a Studio based or live situation it was the streaming thing that the research had to be done on, we wanted it to be free and accessible to everyone so here's what we came up with.

Download OBS Studio Software (Free)
https://obsproject.com/download

If you use Mac you will need a program like Soundflower or WavTap (also free) this will act as a go between your Audio interface and Core audio, do your research depending on how old or new your OSX is one of these two Apps will work.

Soundflower appears to be capable of 64 channels of Audio.

So the routing of your interface and channels is possible will just take some time to work on the specific routing for your set up.

So for todays Acoustic Duo tracking session, we went with the Rode NTK & AKG C3000b on Vox, 2 x Octava's on GTR and an Extra D.I., Overdubbing was done with the Flagship NTK with Telefunken Tube, Mixing, Mastering & Video in Production :)

A colleague today asked me how do they get that sound in Mastering ?
A combination of digital and analogue outboard gear is def involved.
Always remember Mastering is a different art form to Live, Studio & Recording Tracking.
