Tossing it with
πŸ₯¬πŸŽ§πŸŽ™πŸ“šπŸ“»πŸ”Š 😊

I was delighted to be the narrator for Minnie's autobiographical book Blindingly Obvious which tells of her travels and stories as a partially sighted woman and access advocate, and her quest to build a more equitable and accessible world. The book was destined to be the countries β€˜most accessible published book’ to date - which I believe it is, given that it's available as a printed text, an audiobook, it's the first full non-fiction book to be translated into NZ sign language, it is currently being released episodically as a podcast series and will be coming to a Braille and e-braille format as well. Next step is te reo Māori, other global languages and beyond! As always, thanks to Audiobooks NZ and our recording partners at

Got another episode of the for yas!

We’re chatting about the impending doom that is the use of artificial intelligence and cloned or computer generated voices as replacements for narrators and actors in the audiobook industry.

Join me as I talk through the nitty gritty with Theo Gibson, founder and head of Audiobooks NZ who has a breadth of experience and opinion on the subject of AI and what it means for the audio publishing industry. We share some horror stories and what we can expect as we move ahead with the knowledge that AI is here to stay, we just have to learn to live with it and safely protect ourselves from being exploited as it continues to learn from the infinite melting pot of content and information available on it’s feeding ground; the internet. We’re hopeful the lay person - or indeed any human who enjoys listening to long form content, podcasts, audiobooks and stories can become advocates for continued use of human voices, instead of letting us be taken over by robots. Many thanks to our studio partners

I'm working on a sub-committee with Equity New Zealand to see how we can best regulate against the misuse of AI and our bodily IP. If you've got any concerns or issues to raise, please get in touch and we can air them collectively. ✌🏻✊🏻

Our first episode for 2023 - and season 3!! πŸ₯³ features Rahul Rai with his new book: Repurpose Me, Your Path to a Contentment Mindset!

Do you take life too seriously even though you know it is so temporary? Have you found yourself postponing the things that you really want to do? Do you ever wish you could enjoy your work a little more or wonder where to find purpose, happiness, or just contentment? After a near-death health experience and living through the horror of the Christchurch earthquakes, Rahul Rai started to look at the bigger purpose of all we do. As always, thanks so much to Audiobooks NZ for making Sound Salad Podcast possible!

πŸ₯³πŸ’ƒπŸŽ™πŸŽΆ 🎹 🎧 πŸ“š

Linn is such a local gem, and her novel is a musical jaunt through some of the high and low lights that make up the colourful life of a working musician, complete with her own original compositions and a narrative performance that shows off her innate charisma. Linn has certainly lived a life or three, and her stories take us all over the world.

Love a pandemic to set you back a few weeks..
But we're back! And finally getting a gas bag with this wonderful gent, Peter Dowling of Oratia Books. Oratia won the BOP Bologna prize for Best Children's Publisher of the Year 2021 Oceania at the Bologna Children's Book Fair in Italy, for the 'creative nature of the editorial choices they made in the previous year.' Woohoo!! πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

Having published and worked in the literary scene for many years, in many different countries, Peter returned to humble old west Auckland to forge the little publishing house that could. He attends book fairs globally and pushes his authors work out to the masses, with a firm belief in putting NZ voices and books up front and centre. He is fluent in too many languages to list, and has some exciting new titles and children's literature coming out in 2022 including new installments of Dawn McMillan's 'Bum' series.. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘watch this space.. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜

They've got loads of goodies for Christmas too, so head along to the website to have a geez!

Already up to our 7th installment!! 😁😁 πŸŽ§πŸŽ™πŸ”Š

I was so stoked having the wonderfully prolific powerhouse beauty of Kathryn Burnett feature for this week's ep! πŸ’ͺ🏻πŸ₯³

Kathryn has been sending the elevator down for emerging and established for years, having begun her own career in journalism - only to swiftly move into tele and the rest is sorta history. πŸ“ΊπŸŽ¬

From titles like Fresh Eggs, The Tender Trap, The Cul-de-Sac and My Life is Murder, (to name a few,) we wanted to have Kathryn feature this week because her play was opening imminently...alas. Never mind though! The Campervan will still be seeing it's first season as soon as poss. 🚎🚎🚎

Have a listen to some of her top tips, rad experiences and all-round aural goodness. πŸ’šπŸ’œβ€πŸ‘‚πŸ»πŸ‘‚πŸ»πŸ‘‚πŸ»

Welcome to episode 1 of Sound Salad!
After almost a year of hand brakes being pulled, golly are we glad to be live! And all with special thanks to Audiobooks NZ πŸ–€

I’m hoping we’ve come up with something that can have vast appeal for writers, publishers, narrators, engineers, musicians, gamers...anyone who has an appreciation of all things spoken, and all things heard.

We’ll be interviewing some awesome minds and voices on the many subjects that audio content can raise, but to start off with I thought I’d take a stroll down old whakapapa lane and start from the very beginning. From first learning how to lay down recorded sound at all, to our current reality of holding mini-libraries in our pockets.

Happy listening, share us around, get a book into ya!
