The New Plymouth Operatic Society is set to stage "We Will Rock You," a musical comedy based on the songs of British rock band Queen, at the TSB Showplace in New Plymouth.

The show runs for 16 days straight and stars Danica Manson and William Deane. Both have played their characters, Scaramouche and Galileo, in previous productions.

Director Richard Neam, along with Manson and Deane, are the only non-Taranaki residents among the nearly 50-member cast.

The musical is set in a dystopian future where real music has been banned, revolving around two societal outcasts joining a revolution to save rock 'n roll.

Deane emphasized the value of local theatre as an opportunity for community bonding and living out dreams.

The show runs from May 25 to June 10.
