From Marlborough District Council ⚠

Following yesterday's rain, crews are out this morning inspecting roads. Drivers are advised to travel with caution due to areas of surface flooding and debris on the road.

Overnight Botham’s Bend Road, Wakamarina Road and the fords on Hammerich’s and Taylor Pass roads have been closed due to flooding. We cannot accurately predict at this point in time when Queen Charlotte Drive will reopen. More information will be posted here as soon as it comes through from our road inspection team.
Contractors are assessing Kenepuru Road and will work to clear slips today.

The following roads are closed:
SH63 at Renwick between Brydon and Anglesea streets
Queen Charlotte Drive, between Cullen Point and Moenui
Botham’s Bend Road, Spring Creek
Wakamarina Road
Hammerichs Ford
Taylors Pass Road Ford
Kaituna-Tuamarina Road, approximately 2km past Gibsons Road when travelling from Kaituna/SH6
Jacksons Road Ford
Old Renwick Road Ford
Kenepuru Road
Te Mahia Road
Wairau Bar Road
Northbank Road, approximately 22km from the start of the road is down to one narrow lane. No heavy vehicles past this point.

Here's the latest info on what the weather's been doing out there:

UPDATE: 9.20PM: Due to flood waters subsiding, SH6 between Havelock and Rai Valley has reopened.

Kaituna-Tuamarina Road, approximately 2km past Gibsons Road when travelling from Kaituna/SH6 Jacksons Road Ford, is closed.

UPDATE: 7.30pm: Due to slip material on the road, Kenepuru and Te Mahia roads are closed. The Ford on Old Renwick Road is also closed due to flooding.

Caution is advised on SH63 at Wye Bridge due to flooding.

The rockfall on SH1, South of Seddon has been cleared.

UPDATE 6.35PM: Due to flooding, caution is advised on SH63 near the Saltwater Lane intersection and the Kowhai Point Camping Ground. Due to rockfalls, caution is advised on SH1 South of Seddon, just prior to Blind River Loop Road.

There is excessive flooding on Northbank and Onamalutu Roads. On Northbank Road, approximately 22km from the start of the road, due to a slip the road is open to one narrow lane. No heavy vehicles past this point.

Wairau Bar Road is closed and caution is advised on Bothams Bend Road, Spring Creek. Caution is advised when crossing the Taylor Pass Road Ford.

UPDATE: 3.05PM: SH6 is now closed near Canvastown between Havelock and Rai Valley.

Due to the current rainfall there is surface flooding on many Marlborough roads. Road users are reminded to drive with caution and to the conditions.

Queen Charlotte Drive, about 1km before Moenui Road when travelling from Havelock, has closed again due to further slip material coming on to the road. Contractors are assessing this site. Signage has been installed at both the Picton and Havelock ends.

SH6 at Pelorus Bridge and Okaramio has surface flooding. Due to flooding Kaiuma Bay Road is closed at both ends. Tapps Road, Canvastown is closed from the start of the road. Para Road is also closed.

Some of our rivers are running quite high - for example Te Hoiere/Pelorus, the Upper Wairau (Branch River at Bull Flat) and Goulter. The lower Wairau is trending towards a one-in-three year event - about 2,000 to 2,500 cumecs, peaking early tomorrow morning - this is well below any critical flood danger level.

We had Elektra from Pelorus Rugby Club run the ball out for the Mako Women, and then Leighton from Moutere Rugby Club had to do it in the pouring rain for the Tasman Mako ☔
