Today we release a NEW episode featuring a pair of thought leaders & innovators in the world of produce.

We are pleased to welcome Anneliese Hough & Sarah Grant of Magic Beans. Magic Beans is a sharing platform that will connect people in the same neighbourhoods, to exchange home-grown produce and assist each other in growing fresh, healthy food.

It was incredibly inspiring to hear of their journey, moving from what started as a page to connect community & now growing into a vision of a global movement.

Today we release a new podcast episode featuring the budding leaders & bundles of energy that is Maegen Blom & Emma Blom!

Already at a young age they have had many adventures. It was truely humbling to hear the unique perspective from the girls as they take on board what they have learned from those around them and look to apply themselves in creating better future opportunities both for themselves and for their peers.

In this delightful podcast I talk Helen Blom a woman who has a love for adventure, dreaming big and following a path least travelled.

In a world where we are being asked to increasingly pivot and change how we produce food we can draw inspiration from Helen who has mastered the art of pivoting and taking her team ( including her family) on this adventure.

From arriving in New Zealand as a pack backer, to milking cows, having their own farm, to mussels and tourism Helen and her husband Art are a finely tuned team. With a shared love of adventure, a dose of courage and optimism they have forged a non- traditional pathway.

There are plenty of gems in here about partnerships, family, and leadership- a must listen.

Last week I have a keynote for a wonderful event "Refill your Cup" for rural women. I talked about confidence and belonging. This was one of my slides and I asked the audience what did they see? This is my gorgeous grandaughter waiting for me to take her to a concert. She is unburdened by others opinions, present in the moment and joyfully anticipating. I then asked the question "When did you start to think you were not enough"?

Privileged to be speaking this year. I love how Kaila creates, engages and delivers this premium event- She deeply questions and inspires her presenters to bring their whole selves to the discussion. And her brains trust.... mostly amazing women.

This episode was recorded at the end of last year- My friend and colleague Sara said "hey Lindy lets here a bit of your story" We talked about my early years in farming, why I made it my mission to serve women in food production around the world, what leadership means to me and vulnerability.

With 10 episodes now under my belt I would love to be able to reach more women, connect with more women to interview and share our stories more widely. Can you help? As always I love hearing from you especially what resonates for you.- Lindy

My last podcast for 2020 is a nod to the past. What are the lessons we need to remember about wool, sustainability, diversification and urban/rural partnerships? Through her early life representing NZ in the Miss World and Universe Pageants, Gaye was able to put NZ wool on a global stage. Later farming with her husband Tom, her experiences of fashion, and her ability to put people at ease helped support new ventures like the deer industry and large community events

Last night I saw the opening of the movie Misbehavior, the story of the first women of colour to win Miss World (Jennifer Hosten) and the beginning of Women's Liberation Movement whose aim was to disrupt the competition. Pre movie we heard from a women I am so proud to call my friend Gaye Williams. Gaye was Miss NZ 1965 and represented us at Miss World. Pre show she kept us spellbound with stories of her time representing her country, the relationships she developed and how the NZ wool board became the sponsors All her dresses were made of wool, including this amazing wool lace dress we are holding up. Still as beautiful as the day it was made. After her global adventures Gaye married a local farmer and together they have had huge impact both locally and within the NZ agri sector. I hope to record her story soon. Made me realise how proud we were of wool in 1960 and how it represented us back then.

Sorry for the break, but I think you will agree it was worth waiting for!

How do you use your experiences outside of agri to add value and make the switch? Susan Goodfellow is an agri entrepreneur but like so many of us had doubts around her creditability as her initial training was in project management and design. Her story demonstrates how when we recognise the value of our transferable skills/ strengths and the leadership skills we learn within our families -we learn to trust ourselves and find our purpose.

Her lightbulb moment came a few years ago working on a water project “how can I create sustainable land use options for farmers and remove the barrier to market”? Her solution lead to co- founding left field innovations a purpose led enterprise creating a better New Zealand through sustainable food production that delivers higher nutrition and value

Last week I talked to Lynda McDonald, whose lifelong curiosity has taken her many places and shaped the way she sees and now does things. There was a day when overwhelmed with too much on her plate and a big life impact, Lynda got some great advice “stop spinning so many plates, people don’t remember how many plates you spin, only the ones you drop”. In this episode I explore growing leadership through understanding your why, what and how.
These days she is very intentional on keeping her bucket full - leading with integrity and being true to herself. She’s a Kiwi girl with global influence in the dairy sector, she doesn’t like to focus on what she has done, it is more around ‘who she is’ and ‘what she stands for’.
Love to hear what resonates with you in this podcast?
