How did early humans so quickly travel to and colonize the Philippines, Borneo, Australia, New Guinea, and even Tasmania without large ships and navigation instruments? The answer: they did not need such technology because sea levels were as much as 390 feet lower during the last ice age. The image here shows the landmasses of Southeast Asia, the Sunda, and the Sahul during the last ice age. It would be a relatively easy walk or short boat rides for the most ancient humans to migrate from the middle-east into all parts of Southeast Asia, Australia, New Guinea, and Tasmania.
