🥳 What a thrill to see two of our children's books to appear on the Listener’s 50 best kids’ books of 2024 list!

📖 SAVING WĀNANGA by Kris Herbert & Dïne
"The story of a sassy kea rescued with signs of lead poisoning by a police officer (he sang to it on the trip to the vet) is told by a science journalist with visual help from a French Kiwi living in Glenorchy."

📖 TASTING WITH YOUR FEET by Ned Barraud
"A catchy title for a superb book, covering all the senses that humans and other animals use to, well, make sense of the world."

🎅 Check out the list in full in this week's Listener, it will make Christmas book buying for the children in your life very easy!

What's in a landscape? When is it personal; when is it collective? Matt Vance talked to Kathryn Ryan on RNZ Nine to Noon about the pull of our innerland and that of our ancestors.

Make sure Matt's newly published book 'Innerland: A journey through the everyday landscape of New Zealand' is on your Christmas gift-buying list; your favourite bookseller will be delighted to sell you a copy.

Forget the Southern Alps in winter. A new book from Banks Peninsula-based author, writer and filmmaker Matt Vance focuses on New Zealand's everyday - or perhaps less interesting - landscapes.

More spy talk; this time, on RNZ Nine to Noon, with a solid review of Maire Leadbeater's book. Huzzah!

On Monday night our history of Forest & Bird (F&B), 'Force of Nature/Te Aumangea o te ao Tūroa' was launched at Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne Ecosanctuary in Wellington. Forest & Bird president Kate Graham, authors David Young and Naomi Arnold, publisher Robbie Burton (photographed on the left), and Forest & Bird CEO Nicola Toki spoke to a packed house. It was a fittingly grand occasion for this landmark book, with a huge cake featuring the book cover.

In the group photo below, author Naomi Arnold, F&B editor Caroline Wood, F&B researcher Michael Pringle, and author David Young pause before the formal cake-cutting ceremony.

Huzzah, here's to F&B's conservation mahi for over 100 years!

When does graffiti become art? Writer, landscape architect, and sailor Matt Vance elevates the ordinary to the extraordinary in 'Innerland: A Journey through the everyday landscape of New Zealand,' which the venerable Steve Braunias over at Newsroom describes as a 'splendid new book.'
