If you’re always the bigger person, maybe it’s time to stop standing next to small-minded people?

There’s a huge difference between being compassionate and being a constant caretaker of other people’s 'stuff'. It’s actually not your job to keep carrying people who refuse to grow.

Strength isn’t about endlessly absorbing what others refuse to take responsibility for. At some point, protecting your peace means choosing yourself and knowing when to walk away.

And that's actually not being selfish. That's sensible.

There’s a moment, maybe years from now, maybe just around the corner, when you’ll look back and see all the times you stood at the edge of something more. Those moments when your soul whispered, go, but the fear and doubts held you back.

Regret doesn’t come from messing up. It comes from holding back. It's not about failure. It’s about hesitation. The doors we didn’t walk through, the words we swallowed, the love we didn’t claim, the risks we labeled too much.

Most of what we worry about never actually happens. But if you keep waiting, nothing happens. Life moves with or without you. One day, you’ll either look back grateful you took the chance or wonder if what you wanted could have been.

You don’t always need to be at 'full bore', constantly doing, micro-managing, and running on steam. Sometimes, the most loving thing you can do for yourself is to pause. Giving yourself permission to rest isn’t a weakness; it’s a strength. To step back and just breathe. To be a 'Sunday' in the middle of a busy week. I call them 'duvet days'. It’s your body, your soul, telling you it’s time for a 'time out' to recalibrate.

When you allow yourself this level of stillness, you create enough space for clarity. The right answers rise from the quiet, not the chaos. This level of healing doesn’t demand perfection; it’s purely asking for your presence. Necessary rest is not a luxury. It’s a really healthy life strategy. "You are not a machine!" You are a human being, not a human doing!

Growth isn’t a straight line. Every time you rise, there’s a dip, and that’s where the real work happens. It’s not avoiding the hard moments; it’s facing what’s there, the beliefs, definitions, emotions, and experiences you’ve been carrying, and bringing them with you as you move forward.

The discomfort, the stillness, even the doubts, they’re not there to hold you down. They’re there to build up your resilience, the clarity you need for a breakthrough to fully launch.

Each rise gives you the strength to go deeper, and each dip helps you uncover what’s maybe holding you back so you can let it go. Over time, the lows feel lighter, and the highs feel fuller. It’s about becoming whole.

Triggers are mirrors. They're teachers. When you’re triggered, it’s a signal, not an enemy. They point to the unresolved stories, the parts of ourselves that still need TLC. They’re invitations, a chance to observe, not something to fight or run away from.

When something sets you off. Ask yourself, "What’s this really all about?" It’s not about blame, of others or yourself. Not to try and fix it, but to understand, to innerstand. Triggers shouldn't be about the who, what, or where; they’re about what’s still inside you waiting to be seen and felt.

And, that’s how you stop the cycle. You heal the roots. When you can sit with that discomfort instead of reacting, you begin to take your power back. And that's what finally sets you free.

Perhaps it's time to properly introduce myself. I'm a British nurse who jumped ship & swam to New Zealand.

I trained as a registered nurse in the early 90’s in England. Initially, working in specialized medicine before spending over a decade in critical care.

Sadly, I experienced a bereavement that ultimately changed the course of my life. The effect on my life perspective was profound. Despite years of nursing, my new lived experience confirmed how fragile time really is. Ultimately, I re-evaluated to create more purpose & vowed to live my life to the fullest.

Subsequently, I sold up, left England, & traveled extensively for two years. I’m still humbled by the richness & learning (I gained) from teaching nurses & breaking bread with such diverse cultures.

Almost twenty-one years ago, I reached my final destination & emigrated to New Zealand. I eventually settled in the South Island for a role in rural health. There, I married a Kiwi farmer & had our three sons. (Prem twins, then another boy) 3 under 3!

I've spent the last 18 yrs working in primary & public health, paramedicine, community, and palliative care. Gaining invaluable experience in core trauma, mental health & addictions. I scaled my role to a nurse specialist, providing wraparound services in infant/child/adolescent/family health. Six yrs ago, I completed my Master of Nursing with Distinction (I know, shocker, right)

Working in cradle-grave health, like so many others, I'd been feeling somewhat burnt out. I went on a leadership course, and weirdly, what I discovered about myself was that I've actually been coaching/empowering/mentoring for most of my career, all packaged up as a nurse. (Many of these techniques I'm now accredited in I'd weirdly developed myself & already used for years, particularly with emotional intelligence/regulation). I just didn't know they were an actual thing.

So, two years ago, I took a huge leap of faith & combined professional coaching and therapy modalities with all of my nursing skills. I'm a highly sensitive sensory person with chronic empathy who absolutely loves learning & teaching, helping, & healing.

If you're still reading, thank you, truly.

If nothing changes within you, nothing will change around you. It’s not easy to face that truth, but it’s really the only way forward. You’ve been waiting, waiting for the right time, the right circumstances, and maybe even someone else to change first. But deep down, you know it’s not about them. It’s only about you.

The hardest step is owning your parts. Every choice, every “yes” when you meant “no,” every time you stayed silent or chose to stay stuck, it all brought you here, to this exact moment. But here’s the thing: the same power that brought you here is the power that will actually motivate you to get going.

None of this is easy. It will probably shake you to your core. But the life you want. The one where you stop carrying all this 'stuff' that's holding you back is where you'll finally feel free. And it’s waiting on the other side of all of that.

So, the question is, are you ready to take that step?

You’re not falling behind, and you’re not lost. You’re in the process of being found. This moment, no matter how messy or uncertain, is all part of your path. All a piece of the puzzle. Growth rarely feels like progress in the moment, and healing often asks us to let go of what we thought we needed.

Right now, you are exactly where you need to be. Not forever, just for now. It's asking you to trust as it's unfolding, to lean into the discomfort, and to meet yourself with curiosity and compassion. So, take a breath, lean in. You’re so much further along than you think.

What is this piece of the puzzle asking you to see, to release, or to become? Every moment, even this one, is shaping the finished picture. It all belongs.

When life takes an unexpected turn of events, it can feel messy and disruptive, like the grounds shifting. They’re not here to stop you. They’re here to help you see things differently. It’s a chance to regroup and ask yourself different questions: What is being revealed here? Does this feel right for me?

It's a choice point, although uncomfortable, it's also space to realign. To consider what, where, and who you want to be going forward. What really matters to you. These moments are opportunities to rewrite the story, shift patterns, and step forward with more purpose.

Life isn’t here to break you; it’s here to wake you. It’s to show you how to take the next step, one that feels a little more honest and a little more like you.

There is a season for everything in life, and each one carries its own purpose. Some bring growth, others ask for patience, and a few may even call for you to release. You might find yourself wanting to fast-forward through this chapter, but what if this season, right here, right now, is exactly what you need?

It's probably stretching you in ways you can’t even fathom yet. There's really no point in trying to force gratitude or denying these challenges. It’s letting the moment be what it is. Instead of resisting, try leaning in. Ask yourself: What is this moment asking of me? And why? What might it be trying to reveal? Maybe it’s not a test but a teacher.

Just take a breath, and be present, and let this season do its thing. Nowt else you can do, really.

Feeling a bit lost can really start to weigh you down. But being lost isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It’s offering a new beginning, an opening even. And to be honest, you don’t need some type of divine intervention or dramatic leap to re-find your way. Sometimes, it's the smallest, quietest shift in how you see things that changes everything. Not in an instant, but over time, like the way one degree completely alters a horizon.

That slight turn that's barely noticeable can lead to an entirely new destination. You don’t even need to have all the answers today. You just need to turn gently toward something different. And that’s probably enough. So, trust this. You’re probably not as far off from where you want to be, as you think. And, that ladies and gentlemen is how real change happens.

What’s one small truth or shift you can lean into today?

You simply can not pour from an empty cup, nor can you quench another’s thirst if your own well is dry. We try to pour out love, patience, or understanding, but when was the last time we truly gave those things to ourselves? And let’s be honest, there’s a flip side. We look for what we need in others, hoping they’ll fill the gaps we’ve been neglecting.

I know, I know, it's an old cliche, but, seriously, think about it. This literally starts with you. To love, you must first embody love. To be fully understood, you must first seek to understand yourself. It’s not rocket science, and it's really not selfish. It’s just how it is. The truth is, when you start meeting yourself where you're at, it changes everything.

So, ask yourself. Where have you been running on empty? What might happen if you start tending to your needs first? Small steps. Big shifts. I mean, what have you got to lose?

In a multi-disciplinary meeting today, I was again reminded of how much unmet need there is out there, not just in our parenting world, adulting too.

So, how do we create spaces where children not only feel safe but also thrive? It starts with the adults in their lives, parents, caregivers, and teachers, understanding that attachments and connection are the absolute foundation for their emotional growth.

Children don’t need perfect flawless adults (there's really no such thing) they simply need us to show up, notice their needs, and hold space for their emotions. When we embody bigger, stronger, wiser, and kind, we teach them that even in life’s chaos, there’s a place of safety to return to.

This post isn’t just about parenting; it’s about human connection. It’s about looking beneath the surface of behaviors to see everyone's need for reassurance, guidance, or just being held.

It isn’t easy, but it is powerful. And the truth is, we all mess up, every single one of us. But it’s in repairing those moments, those relationships, in coming back to connection, that real growth happens, for them and for us.

This is your life. Take a moment to breathe that in. Not the life you inherited, not the one that was shaped by fear, expectations, or old ancestral patterns, but this life that’s yours to create. A blank canvas waiting for you to start. If nothing stood in your way, what would you like to paint?

What do you want it to feel like? Not just on the surface, go deeper. What kind of mornings do you want to wake up to? How do you want to move through your days? Who do you want to become when you release the weight of 'shoulds' and step into the quiet, certain knowing of your wholeness?

The truth is, life shifts the moment you decide to, like a loyal companion. Every thought, every choice, every tiny act of courage plants the seeds of the life you’re here to live. So ask yourself: What do you want to plant today? Then, do exactly that!

It’s easy to forget how far you’ve come, isn’t it? Life has a way of pulling us forward so fast that we barely have time to stop to and smell the roses. But today, just for a moment, pause. Look back at the person you used to be, not with a critical eye, but with the compasion you now extend to yourself and others.

Think about what you’ve been through, what you’ve faced, and how much you’ve grown. Maybe you didn’t always get it right the first time, but you kept going. And that’s what matters. You’ve built resilience in the cracks, learned to soften where you'd hardened, and found strength in places you didn’t even know existed.

Feel into that for a second. And let yourself be proud, not because you’ve finally “arrived,” but because you’re still going. That's true 'Innerstanding'.

Pain doesn’t disappear. It changes, it transforms, leaving cracks where life broke you open. What matters is how you choose to respond. You can let it hold you down, or you can take what’s left and build something new, something meaningful.

Those cracks are not the end; they’re just the beginning. They're an invitation to fill in the wounds with something stronger, something even more beautiful. It’s not about hiding the scars or covering the damage. It’s about honoring its story.

You’re not defined by what felt broken but by how you choose to regenerate and to grow.

Pause for a moment.

Think of the forest, not as a collection of trees, but as a living, breathing system, deeply connected, each part essential to the whole. The roots don’t question their purpose; they simply connect, nourish, and hold. The canopy doesn’t struggle to grow; it reaches, trusts, and becomes.

Now, ask yourself: Where have you forgotten to trust your own nature? Where have you disconnected, questioned your worth, or shrunk from yourself? What if you could trust yourself like that? Not forcefully, not overthinking, just in knowing. That there’s a rhythm to your life, one that doesn’t need constant fixing, only honoring.

The truth is, you are not separate from this rhythm. You are the roots and the sky, the river, the whole nine yards. Life flows when you remember that you don’t need to control it, only to align with it.

Healing begins when you listen, not just to the world around you, but to the quiet voice within that already knows. Nature doesn’t fight its path; it embodies it. What would it feel like to do the same?

When life gets too messy, too loud, it’s easy to feel like you’re on the outside looking in.Those connections you crave are just out of reach. Yet, no matter how distant or invisible you might feel, there’s always a part of you that left its mark. Within that space, there’s a quiet knowing. You don’t have to do more or be more to belong.

There’s a part of you that's instrinctly woven into others, moments you’ve forgotten, glances that've lingered, words left unsaid but very much felt. Even when it feels like the world has pulled away, that thread remains, holding you. Those connections, although not always obvious, do exist.

You absolutely matter. The truth is, you've always mattered in ways you can’t always see.
