The Beautification Trust in Manurewa does amazing mahi raising awareness about environmental issues, including illegal dumping. I was stoked to be asked to produce a couple of videos outlining their project and was very impressed at how the next generation of Rangitahi are responding to the challenge!

Yesterday was World Head and Neck Cancer Day, so I joined the Team at Auckland Hospital to raise awareness of the different types of head and neck cancer. Here's a brief video explaining the signs and symptoms and what you can do if you experience any of these.

For me, I had a persistent tongue ulcer in 2018, which turned out to be cancer. I had extensive surgery to remove a third of my tongue, followed by 6 weeks of radiotherapy. I'm five years cancer free, but unfortunately people are still being diagnosed every week.

Please be vigilant about your health, people!

Last month, I had the privilege of working with HarperCollins Publishers to create a video promoting Hayley Holt's memoir, Second Chances. It's a compelling read and touches on some very sensitive issues that will resonate with many of you.

It was a pleasure to meet Hayley and her son Raven and I applaud her for embracing and sharing her vulnerability. Buy the book!

One of the least fun parts of the Head and Neck Cancer journey is major surgery, but we're extremely fortunate to be cared for by a team of incredible medical professionals. One of the Specialists who performed my tongue surgery was Dr John Chaplin. I caught up with him recently to get his perspective on Head and Neck Cancer.

I'm feeling extremely humbled at the moment. On Saturday I met a wonderful Uber Driver on my way back from dinner with friends in the city. We talked about his accounting business and his pet puppy Bruno. I emailed him my details and he did a background search on me and found my cancer story on Stuff. He lost his mother to cancer a few years ago. I shared the link to our Givealittle page and he's made a generous donation, bless him! If anyone needs a Chartered Accountant, hit me up for his details ...
I feel for the new members of our group, who are going through the trauma of diagnosis and treatment. The purpose of this charity is to give others the help we wish we'd had. I was very lucky that I had trauma insurance, otherwise things would have been very different and much, much harder to cope with.
Many patients have to travel to Auckland Hospital for radiotherapy every day for 6 weeks, and even paying for petrol is a big expense that may be too much for some people. If every one of my 456 friends gave $10, we would reach our target of $5,000 in no time. If every one of my friends shared this post with their friends, we'd be able to do even more. I know how incredibly blessed I am to have such a wonderful group of friends and if you do have the inclination to give a little, our group would be enormously grateful. Thanks for reading! xx

As a new charity we would love your to help so we can assist head and neck cancer patients.

A bit of background on Super Producer Girl ...

OPINION: A seemingly innocent ulcer resulted in a 10-hour surgery, radiotherapy, loss of taste and a six-month liquid diet. Not so fun for a true foodie.
